We are spending a week @ WDW in August and another 3-4 days @ Universal/Islands after. We plan on doing 2 water parks total during our trip. Doing both water parks @ WDW would save $ but we've never done Volcano Bay before. Suggestions?

*we've done both @ WDW and always love them

TIA

We went to Volcano Bay last summer. We visited both Disney water parks in 2016.

My family prefer water parks at Disney for better theming. The lines at Volcano Bay was crazy last summer because it is new. Go-pro is not allowed on the slides at Universal and my DH is not happy about that. The surface of walkway at VB seems to be rougher. We had to keep our shoes on at VB. But we could go bare feet at Disney....

So hard....we went to Volcano Bay last summer. It looked amazing! My kids liked the wild slides...BUT we stayed at a Universal Hotel and were eligible for early entry. If you are not eligible for early entry, I'm not sure it's worth your time. We did about 9 slides during early entry (1.5 hours when we went). When the park opened at 9, we hit the TAPU thing and got a return time for the aqua coaster which was 1015am. We entered the line through the handicapped access point which jumped us up about half the line, and we still waited 1/2 hour to ride. After we got off the ride, the closest return time for any slide was 3 hours away. My boys went into the wave pool which was INSANELY crowded, so after about 5 minutes we left around 11:15 am. We had planned to spend more time there, but it was simply so crowded it was not fun.

This year, we are going to try the early entry again and I bought an express pass which is good for one time on each slide. You don't head to the front of the line, it just allows you to enter the line. We are going 7/31. I'll try to remember to report back. Feel free to send me a pm if I don't and you are looking for info. These express passes are stupidly expensive and limited in number sold. When I bought them, I didn't realize that it wasn't a front of the line pass.

I guess my opinion is that it is a beautiful and fabulous park...but until they get the capacity under control, it is only worth visiting if you have early entry and an express pass. I think you can have a more relaxing day at the WDW parks. It depends on what you are looking for.

While we love the Disney waterparks, we went to Volcano Bay last August and thought it blew Disney waterparks away. We loved the ability to "fastpass" the attractions.

Now we were staying at a Universal resort so we took advantage of early entry.

That said, we are doing a Disney only trip this summer so since we have the park hopper + option. We will only do BB and TL this trip. Next year when we are back at a Universal resort we will do Volcano Bay again!

Volcano bay is an awesome water park, better than blizzard beach, about same theming as typhoon lagoon. If you are staying at universal take advantage, if not just arrive early and you'll be able to do a lot, the food at vb also beats the food at Disney.
