WDW virgins, we're outta here! Coming soon: a trip report!

A funny thing happened today. Not haha funny, but funny all the same.

DH has been looking for the last few days for some mail he got from DWS Scudder the people who do his retirement fund. He's been working for Farmer's for almost 3.5 years and we've never really paid much attention to the retirement plan except to be grateful it's there.

So he's been looking for this paper because as of this year Farmer's has changed their retirement stuff, I couldn't tell ya how because that stuff is WAY over my head. Somehow I can get a Master's but start talking to me in about 401ks and IRAs and my mind completely shuts down :lmao:
Anyway he said because they've changed things this year he has the option to take some of the money out without the mega fees that he would otherwise incur because of whatever switch that was made.

He never found the paper but we went through the Farmer's Employee website and finally got into the retirement area to see what's going on. Up until this point we haven't really felt the effects of the bad economy much. Things aren't too bad here in grand ol' Oklahoma. So he looks around and finds the place where he can get the money and he goes through everything and so we're now getting some money from his retirement in a check soon

BUT we kept looking around and started looking into the history of the last 9 months or so. He's lost 23% of his retirement money!! :headache:  :scared1: That is just ridiculous. He's lost nearly $200 in the last three weeks alone.

Its funny because it wasn't a big deal before because we didn't even know about it, but to find out he's been losing money for almost a year really stinks. I wish he could just take all of the money and then we could invest it where WE want to, rather than having the $$ washed down the drain by the dying stock market.

So anyway, we now have $$ coming to us to spend at Disney, not that we will spend all of it by any means, but its nice to have a little cushion so we don't have to be on as tight a budget as we thought we would.

I really tried to convince Cory that we should upgrade to the deluxe dining plan, since we are already over on our table service ADRs but he wasn't having any of it :confused3 It was worth a try :rotfl:

At least now I don't feel as bad about have two more table service than our meal plan covers.

is T-Rex on the meal plan?

Molly's new swimsuit for swimming in the pool at our resort! She loves it and insists on wearing it all the time, haha, so she's wearing it around the house right now :cool1:

Love the bathing suit. Hope she will get out of it long enough for you to pack it.:rotfl:

Glad you are able to get some funds out of the retirement account and not take a hit from the taxman. I think we have lost 50% of ours. I know just my 401K has dropped 40%. But, they are all for long term and eventually the markets will go back up. It's those in retirement or about to that I really worry about.

Oh, and I hate dealing with the 401K's, etc. I take care of the bills and let the DH handle that stuff.

We opened our Roth IRA right when the market crashed...so I have our money sitting in the account, trying to figure out what to do with it. It's very hard to know what to do, but at this point, at least that money is safe and I don't count it as an asset so I don't miss it. It's been very difficult to decide how much to contribute this year though!

Love your trip report! looks like you have a great plan and I can't wait to hear how things go for you!!

We're excited!

She did thankfully, though she did wear it to grandma's house one day this week, she's one silly kid.

The whole retirement issue is just confusing. Really I think high school kids should have to take a class on adult money matters so as adults they aren't so in the dark like we are.

Molly is too freakin cute!!! Love the suit!

Thanks! we think she's pretty cute :cutie:

Just wanted to let everyone know I haven't disappeared. During the week I just stay so busy that I don't have time to plan. Tomorrow night and through the weekend I'm going to make our official plans for the days we haven't planned yet. Its getting so close!!

Okay loyal readers, I have a question.

What time should we be out waiting for the bus to make it to whichever park we are headed to by 30 before opening?

I'm trying to plan our wake up times each day.

I'll be back a little later with several daily plans!!

Oh, BTW tomorrow is the first of March!! Only two and a half weeks until our trip!

Another question: How much time should we dedicate to Nemo and Friends at Epcot? As I understand its a walk-through? Then Turtle Talk with Crush. How much should we spend doing the entire thing from the line onward?

Day 1, Wednesday, March 18th at EPCOT.

I'm fairly sure DD won't hit the 40" mark, she's a tall girl, 85th percentile but she's still not going to be 40" by our trip, though I'll continue to hold out hope :thumbsup2
For that reason we're going to get fast passes to the rides she can't ride and go back if we have a break, things like Soarin' and Test Track.

7:00am- Up for the day
7:45am- Be at the bus stop
8:30am- Arrive at Epcot (is this a reasonable time frame for the early morning, will it take 45 minutes from bus stop to park?)
9:00am- Living with the Land
9:30am-The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Turtle Talk w/ Crush and the play area (is an hour enough time for everything here?)
10:30am- Honey I Shrunk the Audience (again, how long here? Can we cram something in between here and lunch at 11:30?)
11:30am- Lunch at the Coral Reef
1:00pm- back to ASMo for naptime!
5:00pm- back to the bus stop (this is at the latest, we'll aim for earlier)
5:45pm- Spaceship Earth (this can be flip flopped with dinner if it would work better)
6:30pm- CS dinner, possibly Boulangerie Patisserie in the France Pavilion or Sunshine Seasons (any suggestions?)
7:15pm- begin touring through WS, going slowly and getting as far as we can before WS closes
9:00pm- Head back to the bus
10:30pm- Lights out!

I tried to allow ample time to get from point A to point B and a decent amount of time for each attraction. How did I do? Am I trying to do too much? too little?

We are planning to head back to EPCOT on Friday Evening during EMH so we can see more of WS that we didn't get to the first time.

Critique please!!

OT, technical question

How can I add links to each of my day plans and picture posts where it just says what I'm linking to rather than the links themselves?

Full day 2, Thursday, March 19th MAGIC KINGDOM, EMH 8am-9am

6:30am- Up for the day
7:15am- to the bus stop
7:45-8:00am- Arrive at MK
Between 8:15 and 12:00pm:
Dumbo in Fantasyland
Peter Pan’s Flight (FP if necessary)
Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (FP if necessary)
Ride train from Toontown to Frontierland (or walk)
explore Tom Sawyer Island
Country Bear Jamboree (maybe)
Ride railroad round trip from Frontierland
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (gonna have to rider swap on this one, FP if necessary)
12:00pm- Lunch, quick CS probably back at ASMo
1:15pm- back in the room for naptime
4:00pm- back to the bus stop
4:30pm- Quick spin on Cinderella's Carousel if we can, Get FP for Mickey's Philharmagic
5:20pm- Dinner ressie at Tony's Town Square
7:00pm- Mickey's Philharmagic (hopefully!)
8:00pm- It’s a Small World
8:30pm- Snow White
9:00pm- Back to ASMo
10:15-30- Lights out after a LONG day!

Okay, is it just me or does it seem like not many rides have made it into that schedule?? :scared: How are my times, do I need to allot more time somewhere, or less time?

I'm feeling a little lost on what to do if things don't go according to plan. I know this is a loose plan and free to alteration, but I really don't want to get too off and get stuck in miles of lines. Yikes, starting to feel a little stressed!

We have another MK day later in the week so we'll get to hit a few more of those rides.

Full day 3, Friday, March 20th ANIMAL KINGDOM

We are attempting a trip back to the resort FREE day, it should be an experience to say the least, but with AK closing at 5pm, we'll miss most of the day if we head back at 1pm like normal.

7:30am: Time to wake up (sleeping in today!)
8:15am: to the bus stop
8:45am: Arrive at AK (I would think it would be a little shorter bus ride since AK is the closest park to ASMo, right??)
Immediately get FP to Expedition Everest, and go back whenever we can to do Rider Swap!
9:00am: Kilamajaro Safari
10:00am: Kali River Rapids
10:45am: It's tough to be a bug (maybe, I'm not sure about giant 3D bugs and my kiddo, haha)
11:30am: Lunch ressie at Yak and Yeti
1:00pm: Maharaja Jungle Trek
1:45pm: Finding Nemo Musical OR BoneYard
2:30pm: Finding Nemo Musical OR BoneYard
3:15pm: Dinosaur (using Rider Swap)
4:00pm: Triceratops Spin (if the line isn't terrible)
Before close head to Flame Tree BBQ to take something yummy for the walk

5:00pm: AK is closed, where to now? Back to Epcot or MK? Right now I'm leaning toward MK because it seems like there is SO much we are going to get to do in just two days there, but I'm not sure, ack!

Onward and Upward! Man, I've been doing this all night, its really a lot of work to put together itineraries!

Full day 4, Saturday, March 21st, MAGIC KINGDOM day number 2

I'm going to work on this and get it up shortly, first I want to do something else in the next post.

I'll read yours! You're right us newbies do have to stick together :goodvibes:

I've got the $1 rain ponchos from Target and a first aid kit. I need to pick up a few more still, better safe than sorry. :goodvibes

Bring several. Once you open them up, they refuswe to be packed back in that small bag! It's just easier to bring several than try to get them back in the package!:) And they tear easily.

Okay I want to post the Unofficial Guide's best and worst park for each day and then post where we will be. I would like some feedback on whether or not I should rearrange our plan. Since we added park hopping it wouldn't be a big deal to rearrange I don't think.

Weds, March 18th
best park: MK & EP
worst park: AK
we are planning: EP

Thurs, March 19th
best park: AK
worst park: MK, EP, DS
we are planning: MK (rated worst because it has EMH today)

Fri, March 20th
best park: MK & DS
worst park: EP
we are planning: AK, then EP after AK closes

Sat, March 21st
best park: EP
worst park: DS
we are planning: MK

Sun, March 22nd
best park: AK
worst park: MK, EP, DS (in this order)
we are planning: DS (because Fantasmic is happening that night)

Mon, March 23rd (half day today, b/c we are leaving :sad1: )
best park: MK
worst park: AK
we are planning: unsure

I highlighted in red where I think we should go as opposed to what I have planned. That puts us in one of the best parks every day except Sunday at DS, but that's okay with me. It still gives us two days in MK which is important as well. What do you think?

Thanks for the advice! I just noticed you are in OK too, how fun! We live in Warr Acres!

Baby swap is a great thing. Life saver if you have a little one...
7:00am- Up for the day
7:45am- Be at the bus stop

Buses start about an hour before park opening. Being at the stop 15 minutes before is a great idea. It shouldn't take more than 15-25 minutes to get to the park depending on which park you are going to. We love to get there early and see the morning opening shows. Good plan.8:30am- Arrive at Epcot (is this a reasonable time frame for the early morning, will it take 45 minutes from bus stop to park?)
9:00am- Living with the Land
9:30am-The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Turtle Talk w/ Crush and the play area (is an hour enough time for everything here?)

This one may take longer. Turtle Talk is a show and runs at certain times. If your timing is right both can be done in an hour. Crush talked to my DD last year and it was beyond cute.
10:30am- Honey I Shrunk the Audience (again, how long here? Can we cram something in between here and lunch at 11:30?)

This is another show so timing is everything.

Comments in green above. Looks like a good plan to me. You will probably be able to fit in a little more than you have here but it's better to err on the side of too little. Be sure to get a map and times guide to help you plan out Crush and Honey.

Thank you for the input, I was starting to wonder if I had any one reading anymore :rotfl:

Still reading. I hope that you find my comments helpful however everyone is different.

Looks like you have Fantasyland attractions scattered throughout the day. Last year we were able to do everything in Fantasyland before 10am. You may accomplish a lot more than you think there. A lot of folks rush to Splash Mountain, BTMR, etc at park opening so Fantasyland is vacant at rope drop. Toontown opens about an hour after normal park opening so you may have to play it by ear for the train. If you are looking to get some pics with Mickey and the princesses we had little to no wait when we went to Mickey's Toontown Fair right as Toontown opened. I have gone later in the day and waited 2.5 hours to get pics with the princesses in the off season. Toontown is cute though and DD will probably like exploring Minnie and Mickey's place. Push the buttons in Minnie's house. Cute things happen.

Alright, after much debate during the last 18 hours I decided to rearrange my park schedule. We are NOW going to:

March 18: Magic Kingdom
March 19: Animal Kingdom (probably Epcot after AK closes)
March 20: Magic Kingdom
March 21: Epcot
March 22: Hollywood Studios

I really want to get the most out of our days and following the UG's best days schedule seems like one good tool to do that. Before we had several days where we were going to one of the worst parks. Now we are heading to one the best park each day except the 22nd, where DS is one of the worst, but I can deal with that. We want to see Fantasmic and its only showing a couple of times during our trip.

A video of Molly coming soon, I hope you don't get tired of Molly, she the most exciting thing we've got!
