WDW to provide 50 acres of free land for high speed train

That would be totally awesome!!! I wonder though if Disney would have a seperate train/trains for their guests coming from the airport. There would almost have to be one leaving every 1/2 hour to an hour apart. I wouldn't mind riding a train!!:goodvibes

this would be cool for when I chicken out at the airport and dont want to get on the plane :rolleyes1

Disney is GIVING this to the government? Out of the goodness of their generous hearts, the execs at Disney have decided to donate land to the government? And there is no ownership left at all and no kickback of any sort?

Is that what they're saying?

Now that could be cool....

Not everyone in the Disney area thinks this is such a great idea.

A high speed train would effectively bypass the businesss peripheral to Disney.

Many, many people depend on the business that tourists provide

In addition, Disney is very good about donating the 50 acres of property but thats a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed.

2.5 billion dollars is a great deal of money to be spent on covering what amounts to approximately 90 miles.

I think the following is very telling:

"For years, Disney wanted any train that might be built to take a straight shot from Orlando International Airport to its parks, with no other stations."

Dont get me wrong....I'm all for light rail and mass transit, but it should benefit the entire area....not just Disney.

I'm just not sure we need a bullet train to get people from the airport to Disney and certainly not at a cost of $2.5 billion.

100 percent agree. Unless Disney is paying the 2.5 billion dollar bill then there should be many stops along the way.

Make it useful for people living in the area and not just an extension of the monorail system.

I read an article about this last week that said Disney was opposing the train because it was going to have stops at the Convention Center AND Universal. So the Universal stop has been eliminated? Gee, I'm suprised Disney came around and agreed to the Convention Center stop. Why doesn't Disney just keep their land and build a couple runways on it, that way people can fly right onto Disney property and never drop a nickel in Orlando.

Disney is getting the government to pay for the train station they want.

Who owns the land surrounding that? If there is development, as there is sure to be, who benefits?
