My son is all excited about pin trading. We bought a bunch of pins through cheappins last Feb. We also bought some official pins from eBay and found a bunch at a yard sale (I can't believe how many 10 cent pins we purchased at this one yard sale. The mom said her daughter spent $7 each for those pins).

About 1/3 of these pins we collected came with black rubber Mickey head shaped backings. The rest came with those gold backs. All of the pins we bought from The Disney Store came with those flimsy gold backs.

I purchased new rubber Mickey head backings for the pins that came with those gold backings.

Will the pins traded by CMs have those black rubber backings (or something similar) or will they have those flimsy gold backings?

I'm unsure of whether to purchase another pin backing set for the pins we trade with CMs.

Any advice?? Wow, I never realized how cute some of those pins are. I even have about 8 pins that I would like just to keep for myself.

:D

I noticed all the CM's trading with DD4 would tell her to keep the Mickey back, or they would switch the gold back for thier Mickey. They said otherwise she might loose them off of her lanyard.

And yet another falls to the beauty of pins...

Be careful if you use those gold pin backs on your lanyard. They WILL fall off.

You can buy sets of pin backs from Disney, but they are kinda expensive. People have them on ebay for cheaper. There is someone on ebay who often has some gold rubber pin backs. I bought 100 for $4 from him.

CM's are told that if a guest's pin has a rubber back, and the pin the guest is trading for has a metal back, that the CM should keep the metal back, and let the guest keep the rubber back.

Thank you for the replies.

You know, I wasn't that into pins until my friend sent me a Japanese Disney Store Marie pin. I don't know the names of the pins yet, but she's so cute sitting in some pink/blue/yellow flowers. After that I was starting to want more pins. Oh, and then I got a Valentine's Day Jiminy Cricket pin... and then I got another Japanese DS pin of some girl chipmunk.. on and on. lol.
Some of those pins are just too darn cute.

I can see how fun it is to collect them now. I went on Pinpics and was floored at how many pins there are.

We are so excited about going to WDW in December. My 10 year old son is most excited about pin trading. :)

Thanks again for the replies.
