One week away for the 5K!!!! Then 10K, Donald and Mickey :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 After three years for me, the Dopey is finally official.

Any other FWers doing the races? DW put in our site request and hope they comply like last year, but we'll take any good pull-out site to make things easy leaving at 0230 each race morning for the EPCOT parking lot.

Any other FWers driving over in the AM to use the RV as a base station?

This year I'm taking things easier since the knees started to act up last week. Sure hoping there's no security to prevent me from getting my McFlurry at mile 15.

Have a great time racers!

McFlurry John

Not running, but will be there. Met a couple of runners (including an entire family) that stayed at FW last year in the 300 loop.

John, you're a glutton for punishment to do the Dopey Challenge! :worship:

As I say every year in your threads, I've done the Disney 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon in past (different) years. It was fun all of it - someday I might work my way up to the Half again. Who knows? :confused3

Have fun, finish strong, stay ahead of the balloon lady, and eat well each night. You're already a champion in my book! :thumbsup2

Bama Ed-a little over a year for next year's Marathon Weekend so plenty of time to train and think about joining in. :cool1:

Just saw the proposed forecast for next week and it sounds like some cool weather will be showing up. :woohoo:

Mowing the lawn 2 weeks ago brought knee problems so no pressure for fast times. Going to start the races right in front of the Balloon Ladies and enjoy every moment.

Does anyone know about the princess races at Epcot in Feb :confused3also the date. Hope this is the right place to ask this question :rolleyes2

Me, me, me, me!!
(but you knew that)

Hoping the provided race transportation works for us staying in the cabins. We'll take the internal bus up front and ride from there, right?
Ready to get this thing DONE!

Will keep an eye out for you!

Betsy it will work for you. Disny will have internal busses running EARLY and will get you to the Start staging area in plenty of time.

But I looked at some of the other running events on the rundisney website and I've got a hangup about some of them. I think it's purely mental. But some of those events are held in the evening (the ToT 10-Mile run and the Wine & Dine Half). I don't want to run at night like that.

I'm so used to the "roll out of bed and race" morning schedule. Even training runs and long run days are early morning. Oh sure, sometimes I start out in the dark and may even finish before sunrise but it's after a full night sleep (early bedtime).

I'm sure I COULD run at 10pm in a race but I don't know that I would WANT TO. Anybody else feel this way? Or is it just me? :confused3

Out at night is NO PROBLEM for me but out at night for a Disney race is a BIG NO with BOSS LADY. ::yes:: At each night race we've done at Disney I managed to do a face plant.

McFlurry John

Betsy- I am going to be wearing my race hat with the McFlurry John flap off the back so if/when you see me, give me a shot on the arm. Make it the left arm though.

we will be at fort this coming weekend but not for the race but my daughter's birthday party. We are coming back in feb for the 10k

John, Betsy, and anyone else who ran this weekend, I was thinking about you guys.

How was it?

What did you think?

Have a beer on me. :drinking1 You've earned it.

Bama Ed

Thanks, BamaEd!
I was successful, and mostly had fun. Not much park time, so we could rest in between races, but that's fine, because we sure enjoyed just hanging out in the cabin. We were on the 2800 loop, close to the loop entrance, so it was a very easy walk to/from the Outpost to get to the event busses. (and had the option of the internal bus, just in case we couldn't walk any further!)

I think I saw JohnVN on half marathon day, hanging out waiting for the start by the balloon ladies.

Glad it's done, though!

p.s. my fiance' really loved the campground and at times we were wishing we had brought the 5th wheel....next time!

BamaEd-Thanks for your thoughts. It?-The Dopey hurt me more than my Ironman. Wasn't really prepared for all the miles especially since my knees kind of went south on me about a month ago when mowing my yard and never recovered. Not good for 48.6 miles of pounding. Think?-Pretty cool and plan on it again. Beer here-Got my McFlurry at mile 15 with an off course detour but was too early for a beer in the World Showcase. Had to get back to the motorhome in EPCOT parking lot for the beer. IT WAS GREAT!

Betsy-Wish you came over and gave me a shot in the arm. Had my McFlurry hat on and a pre-race McFlurry with me. It was cold and yummy plus I even found 50 cents on the road while waiting for the start.

Congrats on a great weekend everyone!!! DOPEY is amazing John VN - nice work!!!

They changed the half course this year, right? How was it?

Didn't seem different to me.

Hmmm, I thought I read a tidbit somewhere but maybe I'm wrong...wouldn't be the first time! :rotfl:

KU,

They've been running the current Half Marathon route for about 4-6 years.

When I ran it more than 10 years ago, we started WELL back on Epcot Drive toward Typhoon Lagoon. We looped into Epcot through FutureWorld only and then went down to the MK, through it, out by Splash Mountain, and finished 13.1 miles in the big parking lot in front of the Poly. I will admit I was THRILLED to finish but it was a little anti-climatic (in the Poly parking lot).

Now they start the Half closer to the Epcot Entrance ramp off Epcot Drive and go directly down to the MK and back. They come into Epcot in FutureWorld to the lake then U-turn back out and into the Epcot lot at the finish line.

Once you come back into Future World the public is there and you can almost smell the Finish Line. When you go through the Entry Gate and into the parking lot you can hear the Finish line announcer calling out names as people are done. There are bleachers on either side for family/friends. It's good that both the Half and Full now finish in the Epcot lot.

SUCH a long time ago.

Bama Ed

Nice to "see" you Bama Ed! I've done the Princess Half twice (2011 and 2013), which I understand is the same route as the Marathon Weekend half. One of these years I'll go for the WDW Full..though lately I've been digging on the smaller races with a little more "heart". I've only done halfs, though, and I've always said that the only way I want to do a full is to be able to hit all four parks ::yes::

And, <cough cough>

I wasn't as slow in the Full as the time shown; that was the TOTAL elapsed time since when the gun went off and I was starting in a corral that had to be WAY far back.

My actual time, after I reached the starting line, was 10 minutes less, THANK YOU very much! :rotfl2:
