Hi...
Just curious...I've used the race transport from many different resorts with good success. But how does it work at Ft. Wilderness? (Cabins, most specifically) Because of the internal bus loops, does one have to figure out how to get over to the Outpost for pickup, or do the marathon busses come around to the loops? Not sure if the internal regular WDW busses would be running at 3-4 a.m.

Thanks.
(p.s. not planning on having a car or golf cart--the times I have stayed at Ft. Wilderness back in the tri days we used the internal busses or rode our bikes everywhere)

Aw, c'mon....NO ONE on here has stayed at Ft. Wilderness for the races? :confused3

Betsy-We just hopped on the very early running internal bus to be dropped off at the Outpost stop for the bus to race.

Thank you, John!
I thought you had mentioned you stayed at the Fort before, but wasn't sure if you took the bus or drove over.
That is helpful, just in case we decide to bring the RV.

This past Jan. we took the bus for the 5K then the motorhome for the Half and Full, same as in the past.

For 2014 I plan to drive the MH over to EPCOT for all 4 races. Something special about having our house on wheels just steps away from the start and finish of the races. In January I stayed in the MH until after the Full actually started then casually walked over and joined the Balloon Ladies as they made the ZIG over into the starting straight. Perfect timing and sooooo relaxing. After completing the races it was back to the MH for a nice hot shower, breakfast and then either to the Parks or back to FW. Doesn't get any better than having it our way. :thumbsup2

Makes me sort of wish we had a MH instead of the 5th wheel! It's huge, so if we took it, it would have to stay at the Fort.
Thanks!

So you waited in your rv until the full started? The place must have been vacant? Wow. Great idea for anyone in an rv....

Then you had to dart around the walkers in the race? That must have been a challenge!

I've been thinking of switching my AKL reservation to FW, but am concerned that something will go wrong with the internal buses, especially since I'm doing Dopey.

Something always goes wrong with the buses. It's just luck of the draw if it happens to be your resort or not.

\\I agree, it's kind of like winning the lottery, in a bad way. The good news is that there is a mobile dispatch system that corrects the issue as soon as it is discovered. I have been at the picked on resort at least twice and never missed a start.

At the risk of creating more traffic on race mornings, I would suggest that anyone running Dopey consider renting a car for the weekend. It allows the runner to have their recovery meal packed in the car each morning and gives them some shelter from the morning weather. I would still plan on a mid hour departure to assure you get into the lot before traffic.

If the internal Disney buses fail on race morning, think of it as an early warm up opportunity.
