First trip to WDW with family was in Sept 04 and we are planning a return trip. Husband wants to return in the fall again, but I'm not sure if the kids should miss a week of school early in the year. My boys are going into 7th and 4th grade. I was hoping that a trip in May might be a good idea, but DH is concerned that the crowds will be too large. Help, if you had take your kids out of school would you do it in Nov. or May. Thanks

My boys are starting 7th & 4th in a few weeks & we'll be in WDW the end of next month. We always take our kids out. But that's us.

We also go in May (SWW). Heat is probably about the same. Crowds are heavier in May but totally do-able. The later in the month you go the more crowded it becomes. Earlier is better, IMO. Sept used to be quiet but w/free dining the past 2 years... need I say more? We're looking at shifting our calendar next year.

Took DD(13) out in early May this year with teacher support. I was shocked at how crowded it was. Felt like summer. Then add the heat. I won't do that again. Plus at that time of year they are finishing up lots of work in school.

November weather is awesome. My sister pulled hers the week after Thanksgiving. Said it was empty. I would love mid month too. I would think the timing would be better work wise with school. At least on our school year (we are in week two right now).

I went when I was in 7th grade and it didn't make that big of a difference and I was taking honors classes. The only thing about missing school was I had to make up work during the trip which is that last thing you want to do at Disney! We went in Setember one year and May is way better! During Setember they have more rides closed for refurbishment, the parks close earlier, and you do have to miss school. We went May 20th for 8 days this year and LOVED it! We won't go back any other time. The weather is about the same, the crowds aren't that different, the parks are open late, and you don't have to worry about school when you get back home! I know the parks being open later doesn't sound like that big of a deal but we take breaks during noon time and coming back to the park in the evening and having lots of time makes it so much better! Our last trip is our favorite and I think going in May was a huge part of that! :thumbsup2

We always go in May and love it. Sometimes it is hot but sometimes it is just real warm, but you are in Florida. This year it was more crowded than in the past but doable if you know how to work the parks. May is a great time to go.
