WDW in August - When do schools start back?

I'm thinking of going to WDW this August. My kids go back to school a week later this year and was wondering when most people go back to school. I would think crowds would get lower at some point in August, I just don't know what point that would be. Any advice on when to go?

We went last year the week before labor day and the crowds were mild but it was very hot and we also had Hurricane Francis to deal with. Florida schools apparently go back to school the beginning of August. We are also planning on going back the same time this year so we don't take our kids out of school. Happy Planning.

Definitely post this over on the Theme Parks Attractions and Stradegy board! :)

The kids here in middle Georgia start the first week of August (too early in my opinion). But as jez4100 said, it is extremely hot and humid at that time - probably the worst heat of the year. You'll just have to enjoy alot of the inside air-conditioned shows at that time to take a break from the heat (though mid-afternoon showers are frequent).

Thanks for the quick replies. My kids are on a swim team (that lasts until Mid July) and I can no longer pull them out of school. It stresses my 3rd grader out. Can you believe that? Too much work to make up in 3rd grade! That leaves August. My plans are to stay in a Deluxe Resort and enjoy the parks early in the morning and late in the evening. During the afternoon we'll swim (if there's no thunderstorm) and rest and enjoy the resort.

The kids in FL get out May 18th this year and start back the beginning of August.

On the other hand, our kids here in England don't get OUT of school until end July so you'll probably find a lot of us there (me included!)

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

In NY the kids go back the Tuesday after Labor Day.

I went the past 2 summers in late August. Last week of August is dead because the FL kids are back in school and the people up north don't come down because they think FL in August is too hot. ;)

Yes, you see kids from England.

Wendy, that is exactly what we have done (with a moderate). Late August is a great time to go. You will have a great time.

For some strange and odd reason we are swapping late August for July 4th this year. :crowded:

We were there the last week in August, first week in September last year! Crowds were at a minimum...of course we were also in the middle of Frances and confind to our room for 24 hours  !! We are doing it again this year and hoping for the best!

The Wednesday after Labor Day in Upstate NY.

....and Yep, it's too hot for us!!!!

Interesting jez4100,

We left on the 25th of August in 04 and found it pretty busy. Guess that last week makes a difference!

Here in northwest Connecticut, our district starts on August 29th!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, it's cold tonight! 14 degrees in March is kind of crazy. That Florida heat and humidity isn't sounding so bad about now! :smooth:

We are going August 19-26th. I hope it is not that crowded with Southern schools back in session.

Wendy, we are in the same boat, my oldest is on Swim team and also stresses about missing school. He will be in 6th grade this next year, new school, new everything. We did not want to make it harder on him, so August it is.

we go every year, 3rd week in august. this year it is 8/20 - 8/28. crowds have never been bad, and the rain was bad only last year. i enjoy the heat + humidity. if if aint raining, i always find time at night to go to the pool with my son. plus, we have to find some way to burn the calories from all the food. he usually goes back to school the day after we get back. (this year 8/29) from joy to sadness in a matter of a few hours. at least he knows what his parents feel like every sunday night!

DS13 & I are going to WDW Aug 13-27

we havent received next yrs school calendar yet - he could very well be returning the wk after we return (or after Labor Day)

We went last year from Aug 17 to Aug 27. The crowds were not bad (alot of British tourists), we were lucky that we just missed Hurricane Charley and while the weather was hot and humid, the parks were open late enough to allow us to have a midday swim break at the hotel.

From looking last year, most southern schools start about the 5th of the month.

This year we are going the 5th to 17th (use those annual passes one last time) and I have seen elsewhere that alot of schools go back on the 8th (which is a Monday).
