Just curious for all you long range planners, if the expansion of WDW Fantasyland is impacting anyone's vacation plans. I read they are going to start groundbreaking soon and project construction will likely run until 2013. While my family will be going on its own during this time, we were tentatively planning a 3 family GG for late 2011, but I am now wondering if it would be better putting that off that larger trip until 2012. (The other families going with us do not travel to WDW as frequently and the group has small children so it will be a MK heavy trip). While it is probably too soon to tell how construction will progress, is anyone thinking about putting off bigger trips/ group trips until 2012 or 2013 when more of the updates are likely to be complete?

Fortunately for our family, our children are 10 & 14. So, Fantasyland isn't a must anymore. If we happen by it and want to ride something we do. But, we don't go for fast passes or get in long lines for anything in that area.

If your GG is going to include many small children that will not be tall enough, or maybe brave enough, to ride the other rides within MK, it may be worth it to wait. But, if Disney is only going to have 1 ride in Fantasyland closed at a time, then you may not miss much during your visit. I just cannot imagine they are going to completely close Fantasyland and all of the rides at the same time.

Good Luck! Sometimes it is so hard to plan ahead. Yet it is a must when you are dealing w/ a group your size.

Its huge for us. No Grandkids yet but DD is 23, DS 21 and DD 16, so hopefully in 3 years we will be lucky enough for the spoiling to commence. :wizard:

Plus owning at BLT will be beyond convenient for strollering back to the room after closing. :thumbsup2

But until then we will not avoid MK at all.

"Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today" -- If you're ready to go, and can all afford it -- go ahead and go. There's lots of stuff for all ages to enjoy at all the Parks, and little ones may prefer just being at the pool anyway! I love MK, but you never know what will be open and operating at any given time anyway. You can pretty much always count on missing something that you'd really like to do. Just don't set up any unrealistic expectations for anyone (be careful what promises you make to the younger ones).

It would be awful to delay just because of an unpredictable construction schedule, and have something else happen that interferes with the trip later -- and then end up looking back with regret.

I'm a planner, and fairly careful with money, but sometimes, it's good just to go for it.

Although its not confirmed that the construction is the cause we've already seen some issues with it. We were trying to book the "Behind the Rails" tour in June and it turns out they have it shut down (not the trains, just the tour) for the month of May and June. A lot of this tour takes place at the Fantasyland station so the thinking is that that is why its down for a while. Disney isn't saying as of now. Bummer for us but I guess its the price of progress. You know WDW they will hide the construction as much as possible. Thats just what they do.

I am planning a *three-birds-with-one-DVC-stone* trip for Dec. 2011. :thumbsup2 I love Fantasyland more than any of my children do and by then they'll be 14, 13, and 10.
