WDW Enforcement...not impressed!

I read here that the traffic enforcement was being stepped up at WDW, and to me that was good news. I get so sick of the tailgaters than want to go 60 in a 35 mph zone and the people who suddenly weave across three lanes of traffic with no signal or warning. But last night I discovered that the cheese is apparently being guarded by the rats! I was on World Drive, where the limit is 50 mph, heading to the turnoff for Downtown Disney. I was in the right lane, doing the limit, with fairly heavy traffic around me. In my rear view mirror, I saw tail lights that were barely visible due to their closeness to my bumper. I made a disparging remark to my husband about the traffic patrols never being around when you need them. I turned off, as did the tailgater, who then whizzed around me. Surprise, surprise...it was one of the Orange County sheriffs! I know he wasn't in a hurry to go on a call because traffic was heavy enough for me to keep him in view all the way past Downtown Disney (we were heading to the Crossroads). During that time, I observed two three-lane-crossers that he had to have seen, too, but he did nothing. Sigh! Maybe he was hoping for an easier ticket by intimidating me into speeding while he was tailgating me.

I have seen quite a few cars pulled over by the police. There are many many more though they should be stopping.

Sounds like the police need a lesson on safe driving.

As someone who drives on property all the time, the increased enforcement on property has made a significant difference in many areas. I used to get passed all the time in the 35mph zone by Stolport (approaching Wilderness Lodge), but now, no more. Many nights you can find 6 patrol cars lined up, and within a few minutes, they've all gotten someone.

Slowly, but surely, the cast members, taxis, and towncars are being trained. :)

I'm starting to see less and less speed traps (multiple patrol cars), and more hidden ambushes. Last night they were on Osceola Pkwy.

I was there during President's week, and we took Sherbeth on and off property. I noticed that there seemed to be significantly more enforcement on the roads (like Sherbeth) that were less likely to be used by normal guests, but more likely to be used by cast.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

We come in from Celebration via World Drive, and although I haven't seen it myself, I've heard numerous reports from others that there are speed traps there, too. In heory, it drops to 35 mph as you approach Celebration, but in practice it's often more like the Petty Driving Experience. I was hoping that the stepped-up enforcement would scare the tailgating speeders into submission, so it was quite a surprise to find out that the tailgating speeder WAS a cop!
