Day 6 - Monday 10/18/04

Who: Mark (me-26)
Molly (DW, 28)
Eric (DS, 2 1/2, first trip since he was 8 months old)
Haley (DD, 4.5 months)

Staying: Old Key West, first stay with our DVC points!!

Plan: Animal Kingdom & Dinner at Chef Mickeys

Actual:
I know you should be at Animal Kingdom early, but we were taking our time... As sheryl0521 told me in a thread, "you don't need to go commando through the parks anymore. You will be going back for many years to come". So we got to AK about 10:30. After all the pictures we were headed for the safari. After about 1/2 the way through the line Eric had to potty, always at this in opportune times, but Molly headed back through the line to take him and Haley and I carried on. Molly and Eric luckily met back up with us on the final bridge to the loading queue... I was worried they wouldn't make it in time... We would've waited of course... ;) So we road the safari and saw quite a few animals. Eric loved seeing the girafes and elephants the most. I think it may have been a bit to bumpy for Haley, but I just held here tight!! :) Once we were done there we headed out to Rafiki's Conservation Station. It was a nice train ride and we got to see the rhinos back by their pens. When we got out there we toured the inside and then Eric and I headed out for the petting zoo while Molly fed Haley. We didn't last too long in the petting zoo after Eric started asking lots of questions about the nuggets coming out of the goats!! Luckily a Guitar Dan show was about to begin so we left for that. What a show that was!! If you have kids you should try and catch one of his shows because he is very interactive with the kids in the audience. Eric had a blast because he kept coming back to him for questions since he was one of the only boys in the audience. Next was the animal show and we leared about Macaws. It was interesting, but I was expecting more animals so I was kind of disappointed... From there we headed back into the park to continure our jungle trek. We stayed on the north loop and stopped in the next area (the country elludes me), and stopped for a bite to eat. Then we took the Jungle trek which was very cool. The tigers were quite active which really caught Eric's eye. Once finished with that we continued around the loop heading past the Expedition Everest construction, this looks like it is going to be very cool when it is completed!! We made a stop at Hester and Chesters so Eric could ride Triceratop Spin. Then over to Primevil Whirl so I could catch a quick ride. Once I got off it was almost closing, so it was either the last Tarzan show or Dinosaur. I chose Tarzan rocks because I like all the inline stunts. We got there and found a seat two rows up from the main walkway they rollerblade on. After the show started I kind of questioned the volume level for Haley, but Molly said she would be fine so we stayed and enjoyed the show. Once this was finished it was time for the park to close and we made our way to the front. We got in the picture pickup line and man was it long! We stood in line for about 30-40 minutes and by the time we got to our bus stop it was about 45 minutes after the park closed and we were the only ones in the OKW queue... A few buses came and we started to think we were going to not get a bus... Then one pulled up and we got on, but we soon became the bus of lost souls... :) We took on people going to Port Orleans, Saratoga, and those destine for other resorts were to get off and catch a Downtown Disney bus to make their transfer... It was a small crowd, but the driver was great. He was a bigger guy named Mark, and he had a stuffed Eeyore that Eric got to babysit on the ride. We sang some songs, he told some bad jokes (pre-warned of course), and shared a little insider trivia...

Once we got back to our room we rested for a bit, and then decided to head to the Magic Kingdom to catch the Wishes fireworks one last time before we had to leave before our 8:50 Chef Mickey dinner reservations. This was our first time doing Chef Mickeys for dinner, but I think we will stick to breakfast on this one... I'm not sure if it was the hot day out in the sun at AK, or the bad seat we had along a wall under one of their spotlights to light up the wall characters, but I didn't enjoy myself at all... I had maybe 2 full plates and then I was finished... Molly said she preferred their breakfast selection to their dinner selection as well. But you live and you learn. Eric was tired from the long day, but he still enjoyed seeing all the characters again. And this time he got to see Mickey up close which he really enjoyed... After dinner we had to go to DTD to catch an OKW bus, and I think we were probably home a little after 11. When we got back to our room the kids were both passed out so we put them to bed, and Molly hit the sack as well because she knew Haley would be up at least once through the night. I wasn't quite tired yet so I decided to hit Pleasure Island since it was included on our PAP and I had never been before. My impression of PI, its a lot of clubs... I'm not much of a club/drinking person (1 pina coloda on my 21st is the only drink I have ever had) so I just kind of wander back and forth on the walk. It was fun to people watch, but other than that it was just alright I guess. I missed the last Comedy Warehouse show that I would've like to catch since Sue speaks very highly of it... So, maybe I could come back for it tomorrow... So back to OKW I went, I finally hit the sack about 3:00 am... :)

Thanks for reading,
Mark
