WDW 50th Anniversary

The anniversary of Disney World opening is approaching in a few days and I have often suggested that much of the current 'rush' to make major capital improvements throughout the Disney World properties is more than just maintenance, but a multi-year project to showcase during a 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2021 - kicking-off what amounts the fourth generation of children and adults enjoying Disney World.

2014:
Magic Kingdom - Fantasyland Expansion completed. Hub work begun.

2015:
Downtown Disney transforms into Disney Springs. Hub completed.

2017:
Animal Kingdom - AvatarLand.

2018-2021 Rumors:
Hollywood Studios - Star Wars Expansion. Pixar Expansion. Frozen (in space now for American Idol).

So what have we by 2015-2016?

-- A spruced up Downtown Disney and Magic Kingdom that has been expanded and able to move the larger crowds (i.e., Hub work).

-- Anticipation of AvatarLand opening in 2017.

-- Likely construction on a major Hollywood Studios expansion.

What's missing? EPCOT.

EPCOT is the 'adult' Park, Disney Spring is intended to change that. Maelstrom into Frozen is the start of the process to 'update' EPCOT.

Rumors:
First (2015)- Hollywood Studio breaks ground for expansion.

Second (2016) - EPCOT Expansion gets announced.

Completed for 2021 50th Anniversary Celebration.

First of all, it is crazy for me to think about WDW turning 50 in 7 years. It doesn't seem all that long ago that we had a pink castle cake to celebrate 25 years. Or, turnstiles spitting out prize winner tickets every 15 seconds for the 15th. We still have our 15th anniversary winning prize one day park ticket! Certainly the 50th anniversary could be a huge opportunity to showcase grand expansions! I hope they spend the next 7 years working towards that.

I will love whatever they do . We honeymooned at Disney during their 25th anniversary so we are already planning a trip for OUR 25th during their 50th. <3

I hope so! DH and I are planning our first trip to Disney World during their 50th Anniversary. DH will be turning 50 that year so we thought it would be a good time to go!

Seems to me the 50th anniversary will be an opportunity to jack the prices for all the people looking for nostalgia of being there for the 50th.

However, I do hope that all this rumored effort into DHS is with an eye towards the 50th. They certainly will have a big celebration for it!

Epcot is also supposedly getting the extra threater and updated Soarin film.
