My mom is not too good....she keeps getting mixed up and saying crazy things. I lose my patience sometimes and I get ashamed....the other day she went on and on calling my kids lazy....(the last thing they are is lazy) ... i lost my temper and I am still angry. .
Lisa, I dealt with taking care of my elderly father for several years.
You don't have to be ashamed for losing your temper.
We are all human, and we all have our feelings. We are not carved in stone like sainted statues.
My father, from time to time (quite frankly usually) could be quite hurtful.
I told him that even though he was in a bad situation, it did not give him license to be nasty and that I would not allow myself to be spoken to like that. Setting the boundaries seemed to work.
The only time it didn't work so well, was in the hospital and there was an issue with the blood flowing to his brain. He wasn't so much nasty, as bizarre. He told me he was a captive of the Spanish Army and that we owned the land the hospital was built on.
I have to admit that he was loopy, but for a change he wasn't nasty.
Getting back to my original point, you have a right to your feelings and don't have to feel bad or ashamed if boundaries are crossed and you are hurt.
