We are flying in on Saturday for our cruise on Sunday (can you say Yee-haa!?) We wanted to bring the kids over on Saturday to see the Magic leave at 5:00. With all the extra security, will we be able to do this? We have never been here, so I don't know the set-up. Will we be able to actually wave good-bye to all the lucky people leaving on Saturday?

You won't be able to get into the cruise terminal or the immediate area because of the security.

The best place that I know of to 'wave goodbye' is from Jetty Park. It's a public park that is at the end of the channel that all of the Cruise ships use to get out to the open Ocean.

It would be easy to find using an automobile and the ship passes within a few hundred feet of the parking area.

Here's a link to the website for Port Canaveral with a map of the area: http://www.portcanaveral.org/about/portmp.gif

Jetty Park is at the far right side of the map on the south bank of the channel. It costs $3 to enter and park there and they have a family beach area as well.

hope that helps

Another great place to wave good-bye is to go eat at Grills. It is right on the water and you can ask for a seat outdoors (or right near the large open windows). Great food, some music over on the bar area and when the ships go by everyone is up and waving. It is fun to go there on Saturday to watch the Magic and then the next day to wave at the people at Grills from the Wonder.

Here's a link to our pictures from our May cruise that show Grills and then a cross-link to see the May 11th cruisers that were taken from Grills.

Hey there -
I have gone to a number of places to see the ships leave and my favorite place is still the park next to Grills - you can not only watch the ships, but see the fishing boats come in with their catchs - The Jetty park is super nice, but to pay an entrance fee and unless you are going to be there to get your monies worth, then I suggest stick with the Grills park - BUT on the other hand, the jetties does have a playground, bathrooms, fishing, swimming and a snack bar. You will find more folks at the jetties - this is just my thoughts.
If you run into any snags - just call the shop at 800-950-4559 or 321-508-2246 (my cell)
Less not forget the manatees put on quite a show also tho it is about 2 miles from where the ships leave from.
Always
Shirley

;) THESE ARE FANTASTIC PHOTOS. WHAT TYPE OF CAMERA DID YOU USE? WAS IT A DIGITAL OR JUST REGULAR?:smooth:

Thanks for the kind words on the photos. Most of them were taken by my DH (MarkRG here on the boards).

imgoingtodisney - the picture was taken right after we settled in. We weren't the first ones off the ship, but we did get off fairly early. Since we had been to the adult beach once before we decided to stay on the family beach this time, but went down to the far end. There was one other family with us there for about an hour while everyone else took over the beach closer to the ship and the snorkeling lagoon. By noon our area was pretty busy too, but we had it to ourselves for a good two hours. It was heaven.

patches-4 - not sure if you are asking Dave or me about the pictures. Ours were mostly taken with my husbands digital camera. The exceptions are the ones taken on Castaway Cay -they were taken with a disposable and then scanned.
