Waterview or riverview?

We'll be staying at the POFQ for the first time. Is it worth it to request a waterview room? Specifically a riverview room? We are hearing great things about the resort and I know we will be pleased with any room, but we're wondering if rooms with certain views are worth the additional price.

Thanks!

At POFQ, if you pay extra and reserve a water view room, you cannot guarantee whether it will be a view of the pool or a view of the Sassagoula River. You can request one or the other (when you pay for a water view room), but there's absolutely no way to reserve or guarantee one or the other ... in the reservations system, it's all just simply "water view."

The above is fact. The below is my opinion.

At any of WDW's four Moderate resorts, it's my opinion that paying extra for a water view is a waste of time. The Moderate resorts are built in a motel style, meaning that your door and window open onto an exterior corridor. That corridor is between you and what you wish to view. People use these corridors, obviously, to get to and from their rooms. So if you have your curtains wide open to enjoy the view, then everyone walking by has a great view of YOU.

Some people cherish their water view rooms at the Mods ... but I just don't get it. If I was at a Deluxe resort and had a private balcony or at least a window that didn't potentially have half the resort walking by, well then I'd probably pay extra for a cool view. But for me, I'll never pay extra for a view at a Moderate.

No.

First, water view means any permanent water (the standard joke about puddles notwithstanding :)). You can ask for a river view, but the pool or a fountain also qualifies as water.

More to the point, since POFQ has only outside walkways to get to the rooms, in order to view the water from your room you would have to be looking out your door or window, across the walkway, at the water - and so Guests walking past your room can look IN, while you're looking out.

When staying at a mod, I always book waterview, just so I can rest easily knowing that I wont be looking at a parking lot.

The one time I did end up with a pool view instead of true waterview, I called the front desk and explained that I had hoped that my waterview would consist of a lake, rather than an obstructed view of a quiet pool and they promptly moved me.

Our family has stayed at POR for the last 2 years and requested a water view. The first year we were put overlooking a quiet pool. We loved that room so much that we got it last year also! I would rather overlook a pool than the river in my opinion. The pool is really beautiful with its lush landscaping and palm trees surrounding it.
