Waterproofing Shoes and Backpack

Does anyone use the waterproofing spray like I do on shoes and backpacks? The can is only 6 bucks and can cover 2 backpacks and 6 pairs of shoes. It works wonders to repel water.

I'd rather wear shoes that breathed/dried out quickly. Keeping water out means keeping sweat in which can lead to blisters.

Aren't most backpacks water repellant to start with? If shoes have to be sprayed to make them stand up to getting wet, I don't take them on any trip. I just take shoes designed to either get wet in the first place, or that will dry out quickly. I want shoes that can breathe.

I know Vera Bradley backpacks aren't waterproof by any stretch of the imagination so for park days we put things in several small ziplock bags and then put the bags in the Vera bag. I have purchased 2 Disney Vera backpacks for my upcoming trip and I might consider using the spray simply because I don't want them to get soaked.

If you wear a poncho you don't have to worry about a back pack. But the deal with the shoes. In the summer it rains hard and if you are out in it its not the rain you are stepping in that may be the issue but the rain running down your legs.

Don't think water proofing your shoes will make much difference.

What brand do you recommend? I have a DIY painted stuffs tote bag that I'd like to make more water-resistant.

sofsole they have it at target and it is great for those of us that dont like to wear a poncho on water rides and my shoes still breathe but dont retain water!

I spray campout on my backpack but never on my shoes. I want my shoes to be breathable and not hold in the odor. I do pack and extra pair of shoes in case one pair gets wet plus its nice to switch out of one pair and into another to give your feet a break.

Campout can be found in Walmart in the shoe department and camping dept.

I'm not sure I'd try to waterproof a Vera. The materials used for shoes and most backpacks are things like leather and canvas. Vera bags are made from cotton. It would be like trying to waterproof a shirt. I think you'd be as likely to waterproof it as ruin it.

Nope, I buy Gore-Tex or other water repellant products to begin with, then treat with Nik periodically to keep waterproofing in good shape. Most of my waterproof gear is over 10 years old, used constantly especially in winter, and as waterproof as the day I bought it.

I used a Hikpro backpack that was waterproof. And very lightweight, did not make my back sweat at all. We all wore tevas or sanuks which dried fast. I did wear my poncho on my lower half on Splash Mtn as I hated having a wet butt! We only ended up one day out of a week having light sprinkles at DHS for about a half hour.

Yup.... i always keep a spare ziploc or two in the bottom of the bag in case of rain,to protect phones,etc.
