What waterpark attractions should ride wimps avoid? I'd like to stick with smaller, open slides, no big drops, and prefer rides that 2 people can go on together. And I'm afraid of heights too....

So far, these are off our list:
BB - Downhill Double Dipper
BB - Slush Gusher
BB - Summit Plummet (yeah, right!)
BB - Snow Stormers (not sure if this will be OK)
BB - Runoff Rapids (should be OK if we go on the rafts that hold 2 people)
TL - Humunga Cowabunga
TL - Mayday Falls
TL - Storm Slides (not sure if this will be OK)
TL - Keelhaul Falls (not sure if this will be OK)
TL - Crush n Gusher (looks like a lot of fun, but the idea of it being like a roller coaster will scare DW, any big drops???)

Anyone have problems falling out of the tubes and having to go down the slide without one? Especially for young children if they get scared and try to get out of the tube?

Our Story -- DW does not like roller coasters or big drops. Big Thunder Mtn RR and Kali River Rapids are more her speed. But DW panicked the whole time waiting to board BTMRR. DW did not like test track (too fast). DS6 has been on Tower of Terror and will get on almost anything (if DW doesn't transfer her fear to him). But DS will probably be scared of big waterslides if he has to go by himself. DH (me) is afraid of heights but I'll get on thrill rides despite my fear. I've been on Soarin several times but still scares me... I hold on with a death grip and have to close my eyes sometimes.

Don't like the big, scary ones either. At BB, my DH & I loved Teamboat Springs, the family raft ride. It was fast, but hilariously fun. You may get put with others in the raft if you are not a party of 4 or more. Also at BB was Toboggan Racers. It is a one person slide where you race against up to 7 others. I did that one over & over again. I thought it was a hoot!! The scariest thing about it was having to climb those stairs to the top over & over again! ;)

I don't want to scare you but I have to be honest with you about my experience on Slush Gusher. I like water rides, but I'm quite scared of heights. I'm somewhere between a combination of you and your wife. I did it with a bunch of my girlfriends and went in the middle of the bunch. It was pretty frightening! I guess I didn't expect to go quite so fast, and the drops really made my belly lurch. Everytime I screamed, I just took in more water, which made me panic, then scream, and the cycle just repeated. It's very hard when scared to remember not to put out your hands/arms or feet, though the velocity sort of made it hard to do anyway. I would go on it again, but it was definitely a lot more intense than I imagined.

Also, be prepared for the wedgie of your lifetime! I held up my other girlfriends because it took me a moment to be decent enough to stand up. The male lifeguard our age (then-18) found it hilarious, and said it happens all day, which I'm sure is true! :rolleyes1

I think you and your son would probably have a great time - in the end I did, and like I said I'd do it again. If your wife found Test Track to be too fast, she may want to steer clear of this. I generally didn't like getting air on the dips (I felt like I was going to fly off the slide). I don't want to scare you guys, but I try to be honest as possible, because I know I wouldn't like it if someone sugarcoated it to me, made me brave enough to try, and then it was all the things they said it wasn't!

My dad has done Snow Stomers and said it was a blast, but I never have. Teamboat Springs is a blast, but can get scary because of the speed and way the raft rides up the sides. Runoff Rapidswas a blast - I did it alone and while I did scream like a toddler it was not scary in any way; fast but no crazy insane drops or plummets or feeling that you were about to tip over. My best girlfriend, a total thrill seeker, did Summit Plummet and said never again! But I will never be brave enough to try.

Sorry I can't help with Typhoon Lagoon, I haven't been since I was probably 8! Can you tell which my favorite waterpark is? :goodvibes

Let's see:

At BB:

Definitely cut out Downhill Double Dipper, Summit Plummet, and Slush Gusher--all big drops, and DDD has single tubes (plus they all have a 48" height restriction--could be an issue).

Keep in Snow Stormers and Runoff Rapids. Two of the slides on Runoff Rapids are open and allow two person tubes. On Snow Stormers, you go down head-first, on your stomach on sled-like mats; it's tough to fall off, so your son should be fine.

Must do: Teamboat Springs--family tube slide, very hard to fall out of, and you get to take the chairlift to the top (Note: chairlift may be an issue for you because of fear of heights).

Also must do, but maybe not for the wife: Toboggan Racers--single person mat slide, straight with multiple drops (it's similar to the giant slides you see at other amusement parks), and with 8 lanes so you can race against each other.

TL:

Humunga Kowabunga: Don't do it.

Mayday Falls: Consider it--it's exciting but not with any significant drops, and the only major issue will be that there are only single tubes. Keelhaul Falls is similar but a little less intense. Neither is covered.

Crush 'n Gusher: Must do--water coaster just means that it goes up, I don't think it has any huge drops, plus you can fit all three of you on one tube.

Storm Slides: Twisting body slides without drops--one of the slides goes through a completely covered tunnel, the other two have no issues at all.

Gangplank Falls: Must do--family tube slide similar to Teamboat Springs at BB, but significantly shorter. No concern here at all.
