I don't know if that is what they are still called. But I remember this being the highlight of my Disney trips as a child. I would love to let my kids do this but I think they changed the age restriction.(back in the 70's they didn't care how old you were just hop in and avoid the big boat were our instructions) Is there anyplace with this info? I looked on Deb's site but couldn't find it...doesn't mean it is not there though I am tired and might just not be seeing it! :rotfl: Thanks for any advice

I copied this from the Disney Website:

Guests must be at least 12 years old and at least 5 feet tall to drive a Sea Raycer. At Magic Kingdom® area resorts, at least one person in the boat must have a valid driver's license. There is a maximum combined weight of 320 lbs permitted for a Sea Raycer, or 2 passengers. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release.

The boats can be rented at the following resorts:

Disney's Beach Club Resort
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
Disney's Contemporary Resort
Disney's Port Orleans Resort
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney's Polynesian Resort
Disney's Wilderness Lodge
Disney's Yacht Club Resort
Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Disney's Old Key West Resort
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort
Downtown Disney® Marketplace

The Magic Kingdom sprites can't be driven alone without a drivers license. My then 16 year old(with a drivers permit from N.J.) couldn't take out a boat alone since NJ doesn't issue drivers licenses until age 17.He'd taken these out in the past, but this is a new rule. Disney told me that it's a " Florida law" and they have no control over it. The MK boats are much faster than the Epcot ones.

The **rumor** I had heard when they first did the policy change was they were having so many problems with children/teens driving by themselves (getting too close to other water craft, creating hazards, etc), they changed the policy.

Don't know if it's helped cut down on their problems, but I do think it was a good move towards a safer lake. :)

We did this on our honeymoon and LOVED it too! WE are planning a trip for 1/06 and I hope our kids like it too!
