In all of our recent trips I have not noticed water skiing or boogie boarding. This is an activity that we did often in the early 90's. In the mid 2000's a teen was diagnosed with Naeglaria fowleri which was immediately and luckily recognized by the ER doctor at Florida Hospital. There was one drug produced in Orlando that was procured immediately and after being in a coma he recovered and returned to his high school. This disease is 98% fatal. He was infected by boogie boarding. The case was presented today at the Florida Medical Association meeting.

Is there a question in your post that needed answering?

Is there anymore boogie boarding or skiing? Was it officially cancelled given this history.

I just googled Sammy Duvall Watersports and there is still wake boarding and water skiing on the lake.

I believe the incident you are talking about happened in Broward county Fort Lauderdale area.

That was another case. The case that was treated at Florida Hospital happened from the exposure at Disney World. It was presented today at the Florida Medical Association meeting. The first responders transported him from the hotel to Florida Hospital where the ER doc recognized the fever and headache as a hallmark symptom and responded immediately. He was treated with Miltefosine

Isn't one of the problems with River County is water from the lake was used and it was not filtered. After the other water parks were open RC could have stayed open for Fort Wilderness if this could have been fixed. In July we rented small boats at Wilderness Lodge and they told us you can knee board on the lake. I think after last year with the alligator incident out of state people are staying away from being in the lake. Still amazed that visitors are surprised that gators are on Disney property

Given the history of the patient who developed encephalitis I would not knee board in the lake. They determined that the wake spray entered his nose and caused the infection. That would concern me more than the alligators. Our kids did it a few times in the 90's.
