Is it necessary to have water shoes for kids (and adults I guess) for castaway cay or on cruise ship? we all have good flip flops but not water shoes that fit all of us right now. We don't have any excursions planned but need to know if we need them otherwise or if flip flops are enough? Is there any reason we need them for the beach at castaway?

Thanks,
Debbie

Only flip flops, CC beach is very fine. Most beaches visited are fine as well.

I liked having my water shoes. When you step into the ocean you kind of sink in a bit and I don't like sea weed between my toes...lol:rolleyes1

PS even though I thought I washed all the sand out of my water shoes my DH packed them in our suitcase over clean laundry and we had sand everywhere lol!

You are less likely to lose a water shoe in the water. Plus flip flops tend to be slippery where as water shoes have a sturdy sole.

I think it depends on the seasons/tides. We've been at Serenity Bay where there was rock and almost no beach (February). At our return in May it was sandy and beautiful. Honestly, it was almost like you wouldn't recognize it as the same beach.

Water shoes are never a bad idea, but that one trip was the only time I considered them necessary.

For us...yes...we were really glad we had our water shoes. With the limited cost and room in the suitcase...I believe they are well worth it.

Um, I NEVER would have thought to wear water shoes...I have very tough feet and thought people who complained about the roughness of the ground were wimps. UNTIL....I stepped on a sea urchin. Yep, me and 6 other people stepped on sea urchins on December 15th. Not fun. Water shoes for me from now on. One guy even had to be wheelchaired off the beach he had so many spikes in his feet!!

Walking into the water a ways at Serenity Bay I found would have been very difficult without water shoes. That was May last year. My mom didn't have them on, and she couldn't walk out as far as I did. The family beach I didn't have the same problem. I would take them if you have the space.

No need at CC BUT if you should happen to go to Atlantis in July then YES!! They have stone & concrete pathways which get VERY hot when it's 95 degrees out! The concrete ones are hot but the STONE ones were literally scorching our feet. They were pink on the bottom.

I would say definitely at Serenity Bay. I've been there in Feb and in Sept and it is very rocky, lots of cool things in the water there, but was very glad to have protection on my feet. The family beach is very soft and sandy, not many rocks so you wouldn't necessarilly need them there.

A phantom pain just shot right up my foot into my gut. Hate stepping on random sea creatures! Blech!

if you planning on going to the adult beach yes buy some. if not you dont need them

Any recommendations of the best water shoes? I use to wear Teva sandals, but they get really slippery when wet.

We liked having our water shoes. Went in Aug and the pavement/sand was hot, so the shoes were a must.

I bought cheepies and then at the end of the vacation, tossed them. I know it is not "green", so please don't flame me, but I couldn't get the sand out of them and it would have been a mess in our suitcases.

All I can say is...thank God for my Crocs. I use them as water shoes at Serenity Bay. Love them!!
