Can someone tell me... are there many water fountains throughout WDW and if so, does this water taste and smell as bad as regular Florida water does?

Yes and yes...No problrms finding fountains, but I can't drink that Floridaa water... :sad2:

There are drinking fountains at every restroom location.

You can also get a free cup of ice water at any restaurant or counter-service place, just ask.

Water in WDW has a different taste than water in Lake Buena Vista or Kissimmee. Off-site water has always smelled and tasted slightly sulfurous to me, like swamp water. On-site water has no sulfurous smell or taste, but has a slightly unpleasant metalic taste. The metalic taste is not noticable if the water is good and cold, however.

I can't drink that water either :(
I carry a water bottle with a filter and then I am just fine :sunny:

OK, so my plan is to carry lemonade and kool-aide packets for water and I was going to fill the bottle up as needed at water fountains throughout the day. My kids and DH will drink water but I'm not sure about the water at Disney after everything I've read here. Me, on the other hand, I only drink water at the gym or when it is excrutiatingly hot outside (we're going in October). Sooo... will the water be OK with the drink packets?

Hello!

I drink a LOT of water!

At home, I drink our faucet water. Everywhere else, I drink bottled water.

However, bottled water at Disney is wayyy too expensive! After a few days, we decide to drink from fountains.

I made a point to drink at water fountains each and every time I saw one. (Made my fiancé drink too!)

It worked well for us.

For this summer's trip, I bought a plastic bottle that I can attach to myself and plan to fill it with ice every time I can.

Suck it up and suck it down!!!!! The sulfur water is good for you! The benefits of water-soluble sulfur are nearly infinite.

from http://www.naturesalternatives.com/minerals/sulfur.html

Water-soluble sulfur is oil in its pure form. It is the flexible bond component that holds your cells together making your skin look good without wrinkles. Before your body can use this form of sulfur, vitamin C must be present.

Because sulfur is extremely noble in its pure form, it is almost impossible to put into a water-soluble form making it scarce in nature. We believe that the oil described in "Lorenzo's Oil" was a water-soluble sulfur base. We also believe our sulfur oil to be the ingredient that repairs the myelin sheath surrounding nerves. Damage to the myelin sheath causes the shaking condition in palsy, multiple sclerosis, Lorenzo's disease and many other diseases, where uncontrollable motor functions exist.

A deficiency in water-soluble sulfur can lead to a variety of conditions to a variety of conditions ranging from skin irritations and rashes to total breakdown of cellular regeneration.

Nutritional sulfur is necessary in many functions of the body. Insulin production is dependent on sulfur. Sulfur is also an essential component in amino acid composition, which is responsible for construction of proteins and enzymes.

The combination of sulfur and vitamin C has been reported to show great benefits in the relief of arthritis pain, migraine headaches and leg cramping. Individuals have also enjoyed great relief from chronic to severe allergies to house dust, pollen, wool, animal hair, and feathers. Symptoms range from respiratory congestion, inflammation, itching, mucoid discharges and general discomfort.

Water-soluble sulfur is also essential for collagen synthesis in skin, hair and nails. It has been used to soften tissues, relieve stress, asthma, arthritis, inflammation, constipation, Candida albacans, detoxify the body, increase blood circulation, reduce muscle cramps and back pain, heal muscles, increase energy, and increase mental capacity. It has also been widely used to stop urinary tract infections and constipation problems. The benefits of water-soluble sulfur are nearly infinite.

I'm a life long Floridian and love the way the natural water tastes but the water fountain water at WDW tastes like city water. I bring a water bottle with a filter and fill it all day long from the fountains. The filter takes out the icky taste. If I remember correctly, and it's still the same, there was an especially cold fountain near the Haunted Mansion in MK. We also buy water from a store to drink in the hotel room since the hotel water doesn't taste any better to me.

I thought (& so did almost all of the other 17 people in our group) the water tasted terrible...luckily I already brought with me the Kool-aid single and some lemonade singles! Life saver since it was so hot a few weeks ago when we were there. I highly recommend bringing some with you. They are so little so they take up no room at all!

That will work just fine. You'll have to bring some water bottles with you, though. If you don't have any, you might want to stop by your local sporting goods store, or even WalMart, and look for some sports bottles with comfortable carriers. I prefer the belt type; others like an over-the-shoulder strap.

You can also find lots of nice waist packs with water bottle pockets (most of them come with a bottle). If you're the waist pack type, that is.

Okay, I only minored in chemistry, but since oil is made of of carbon and hydrogen, and while IMPURE oil may contain sulfur, how are these statements true?

Now for some real info on sulfur in water. Sulfur is not soluble in water, but the 2 forms found in water are as follows...

Two forms of sulfur are commonly found in drinking water supplies: sulfate and hydrogen sulfide. Both forms are nuisances that usually do not pose a health risk at the concentrations found in domestic water supplies.

Sulfate
Sulfate may have a laxative effect that can lead to dehydration and is of special concern for infants. With time, people and young livestock will become acclimated to the sulfate and the symptoms disappear. Sulfur-oxidizing bacteria pose no known human health risk. The Maximum contaminate level is 250 mg/L.

Hydrogen Sulfide
Hydrogen sulfide is flammable and poisonous. Usually it is not a health risk at concentrations present in household water, except in very high concentrations. While such concentrations are rare, hydrogen sulfide's presence in drinking water when released in confined areas has been known to cause nausea, illness and, in extreme cases, death.

Water with hydrogen sulfide alone does not cause disease. In rare cases, however, hydrogen sulfide odor may be from sewage pollution which can contain disease-producing contaminants. Therefore, testing for bacterial contamination and Sulfate Reducing Bacteria is highly recommended.

If you live in Florida long enough, you get used to it. I was born there and think water in other places taste weird. Like void of flavor. Not that that is a bad thing, but I amd just used to it. Here in coastal NC the water tastes pretty similar to home so I am okay with it. The water wont hurt you, but if the taste really bothers you, buy bottled. Sugary drinks like KoolAid and sodas only dehydrate you, so drink water or sports drinks constantly. In the summer, if you want to stay cool feeling, drink water constantly. Everytime you stop, have something to drink, even if you arent thirsty. Once you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. Hope everyone has a great trip!

We purchased some Brita Filtered water bottles for our upcoming trip. I hope they work to remove the "bad" taste.

There are plenty of fountains. While DH didn't mind the water at WDW, I had to mix in the Crystal Lite to go packets, which are really good and were a savior for me in quite warm May weather!

Back in 1997 I drank the fountain water and really didn't find it all that bad tasting - but a couple of days later we all got sick! Was it a coincidence? I have no idea - but all I know is that I never drank it again!

The fountain water is yucky, almost as bad as So Cal water. Gaaack! I like the idea a previous poster had about bringing packets of something to mix into the water. Good idea. :thumbsup2

If Florida water is so bad, how come much of the bottled water sold all over the United States comes from Florida?

Thanks to those of you who did answer my questions. BTW - the only bottled water I drink personally is Aquafina and Propel and there are several fresh water springs here in the mountains that are used by various local bottling companies. I think it's just a matter of taste. What tastes fine to one might not be too good for another. I only asked b/c I'm a huge soda drinker but refuse to spend $4 on a soda. I also refuse to pay $3 for a bottle of water, so I am looking into other options. We have already purchased water bottles for the kids that have straps to go around their necks if they want. We plan to purchase water bottles ahead of time as well.

Thanks

I have to agree. So. Cal water where I live is awful and I had read that Florida has some of the best water in the country and when we stayed in WDW in 2001 I thought the water tasted great. Do some of the fountains taste bad? Yes but that is probably due to bad or dirty pipes for those fountains. Our room water was always good.

The reason why Fla water tastes and smells bad (to some) is because it reverse osmosis water. It is swamp water, Fla is swamp land.

I don't drink tap water from my home, so I don't drink it when traveling. We always buy bottled water in the parks.

The kool aid singles are a good idea for people drinking fountain water. It will mask the taste, but some people are sensitive to different water and it may cause stomach distress (me included). Also, when using the water fountains, be careful, I have seen the water fountains being used for more than just getting a drink of water. Let the water run a bit before filling your cup.

If you don't mind the Fla water and it does not cause you intestinal distress, it is a great way to save money. We drink a lot of water and we spend $20 per day (sometimes more) for the 2 of us on just water.
