How accesable are the water parks in regards to those with mobility issues? My DD-to-be (we are adopting) is a bilateral above the knee amputee. She will use prosthetics to walk, but not in the water.

We are not planning a trip right now, but the question came up in conversation and I was curious.

thanks,
Elaine

There's a fair amount you can do. How old is your DD? That will really make your water park decisions for you. If she's 5, you'll want to hang out in the kiddie part, but if she's 12, you'll have some different options. Plus, if she's small enough for you to pick up and carry, you may have more flexibility in getting around the park. The parks have water wheelchairs that you can check out, but if you have a little one, the chairs would probably be too big for her. There are also free life jackets at the parks. My DD (uses a wheelchair) liked sitting/floating in the wave pool, but I strongly recommend getting board shorts (those shorts you can wear in the water that they sell by the bathing suits) because the bottom of the pool is textured and can scrape you up. The lazy river is also lots of fun. Slides would depend on a lot of different factors. Typhoon Lagoon has one slide (Crush n Gusher) with an elevator, but it's not a slide for the faint of heart, plus it has a height requirement. For most other slides, you have to walk up.

Hope this helps!
Mary
