Hi, I was just wondering if anybody has gone to the water parks in December before. My wife and I would really like to go to Typhoon Lagoon on our trip (Christmas week), but didn't know if it will be too cold to really enjoy it. The calendar says they will be open 10-5, so I guess somebody goes during that time :teeth:

Thanks!

Welcome to the DIS!

There is no way of giving you a general answer. Winter weather in Orlando is completely unpredictable. You could have mornings near freezing with afternoons near 50, or you could have cool mornings and warm afternoons.

I suggest you pack your swimsuits because there will likely be several days which are good for swimming...you just won't know for sure which days they will be in advance!

You may want to check with WDW to see if TL is open at that time. I thought that WDW alternated each winter which one would be closed for maintance. I know when I went in early Dec 02 it was closed for that. After I got home I asked about this on another board (before I discovered DIS), that TL/BB alternate downtime for maintance/renovations. So just be aware of that.

Best thing to do is call WDW & see what they say however on my familes previous vacations to WDW around Christmas & New Years, the information board we read at the Contemporary in the lobby that lists park hours & etc has always said Blizzard Beach & Typhoon Lagoon were closed for renovation.

I think that it will be open; according to the website TL is open from 10-5 every day in Dec. I def will call before I get my tickets just to make sure though

I have a very nice memory of writing my Christmas cards at TL! It was the week before Christmas and quite warm. I get cold easily and won't go in freezing water and had no problems at TL.in December. I would just play it by ear and plan on going whatever day is warmer.

I heard that Blizzard Beach is closed for refurbishment this winter, but you should probably check the disney site to find out exact dates.

Blizzard Beach is closed from October 29-January 7.

Typhoon Lagoon is closed from Jan 7 until some time in March.

Hi!
I'm also going to thw world in Christmas week, and I would like to go to TL too,but last time I went in December it was really really cold!Should I pack my swimsuits?

Yes you should, because you don't know for sure about the weather in December. It may or may not be warm enough to swim, so pack them and go to TL on a warm day if you have one!

I've lived in FL for 25 years, and spent all but one Christmas here. Some years it's been in the 80s, others in the teens. You just never know, so bring a swimsuit, just in case. You might want to hold off on buying a ticket for TL until after you arrive.

Yes-you will be able to go--We were there last December and took a day to do TL. We bought our tickets the same day--it wasn't cold to us--were from Minnesota, so we thought it was perfect--and the nicest thing was, there were only 50 people in the park while we were there--(a cast member told us the count). We all had a blast with no lines--and my kids werent cold either(ages 14, 11 & 7). :woohoo:

We have the same dilemma (12/14-23/06) -- went ahead and took a chance with buying the Water Park option (can still use for DQ, etc.). One warm day is all we'd need ... we'll take the first warm day we get (unless it's the 20th -- my daughter and I have ressies for the Princess Tea Party at the Grand Floridian... princess: )

The house we're renting has a pool with solar heat -- so we hope to get SOME swimming in. Being Chicagoan, anything above 30 in winter is warm.... :beach:

I agree with the other posters. We went to BB in December and our experience was similar. Was a little chilly (I think it was around 60) but in the water and in the sun it was fine. As long as you go on a sunny day, you should be fine. Even if it's a little chilly when you first get out, the sun is strong enough that you get dried out and warm up pretty quickly (spoken by a native Northwesterner who only sees the sun 2 months of the year...for us, 85 is heat wave!)
