Water Park Shade

I am planning on going to both Disney Water Parks during our upcoming trip. (July/August) We area family that is very depended on shade. Is there multiple guaranteed areas where you can get shade around the park. I watched a couple of Youtube videos and it does not seem like shade is easy to come by. The last couple of years we have been going to a different water park that has umbrellas throughout the park and near the wave pool area for free. ( first come first serve)

I know that Disney offers Umbrella rentals and Cabanas. There will only be 3 of us and I believe the Cabana will end up being a waste. However, if it is very limited or no shade I will pay to get the umbrella. The price for an umbrella rental is very reasonable for 3.

Our plan is to stay for most of the day. ( Depends on the weather.) and I want it to be an enjoyable experience. Please share your tips!!

Do you plan to get there when it opens? We went to B.B. and thought there was a lot to pick from when it opened around the wave pool re: shade spots. But much less so as the day went on.

There are shady areas in both parks with basic chairs/lounges, areas which will be shaded for at least part of the day, as well areas where you can be in the sun all day. While not my cup of tea, the sunny spots seem to be in high demand! If you are staking out a spot early, you should be able to find something with just the right amount of shade. Just remember to consider the angles as a cool, shady spot may be getting full sun in a couple hours.

We love the water parks and have always been able to find spots where our sun-loving DD and her shade-loving dad are within a few yards of each other. Of course, we are also fall travellers so competition for lounging space is not so bad. If we are there for an entire day, we will often relocate midday, moving closer to a favourite water feature.

If you really want the "shade", have you thought about doing the H2O Glow nights? I have to live vicariously and can't wait to see the first pictures and videos from those nights!

Definitely agree that with an early arrival you will have no issues finding shade.

Yes, our goal is to be there as early as possible. We are going to start waiting for the bus at 8:30am.

We decided to pick the Disney After Hours event instead of H20 Glow nights. One member of our party can stay out in the sun all day and not have any problems. However, the rest will only be able to last during the early hours. Once noon hits we will be done.

I guess it might be best to rent an umbrella?

I wouldn't bother with renting an umbrella, but I would take a lyft or a cab. It'll save you about an hour of travel time.

“ We are going to start waiting for the bus at 8:30am. ”

Take Uber instead unless your resort has a direct bus. Some require you to connect and that seemed like a huge waste of time.

There are plenty of shady areas in both water parks. No need for an umbrella or cabana, unless you want to spend that kind of money. The parks open at 10:00am, you do not need to be there any earlier than 9:50am. Anything earlier is wasting your time and you'll just be standing in the sun. We're heading to TL today, can't wait!!

The kids areas in both parks have plenty of loungers in shady areas. Ketchakidde Creek in TL and Tike's Peak at BB. As you're planning on being there early there shouldn't be any problem getting a shady spot in those places.

We were there the May 19-25 and despite my best efforts, we were a little later than planned getting to Typhoon Lagoon. We arrived around 10:30 on a Thursday. We had three kids ages 6, 5, and 4 months so definitely needed some shade with the 4 month old. We had never been before so wasn’t exactly for sure where we were going or where we would want to be. To be honest, we had a little trouble finding adequate shade at first around the wave pool. There is sand everywhere around the lounge chairs! Not an issue if you were expecting it and definitely added to the beachy vibe but wasn’t expecting it and made it a little aggravating positioning the stroller. We did find some, but we didn’t stay in any one place for very long. With a group of adults or bigger kids, I don’t know that I would worry too much at all.

I said all of that to say, get there early and drop your stuff somewhere. As we eventually got our bearings with the park, I had no trouble finding shade as long as I just carried our infant from area to area that the big kids wanted to play. We eventually made it back to our spot later in the afternoon, but didn’t use it as a home base near as much as I thought we would.

There was lots of shade at the kiddie area but if you don’t have kids, it’s kind of tucked in the corner out of the way of everything else. There was also nice shade by the old shark reef and a little more by where the water coaster pool is.

My favorite shady spot was the lazy river, my 6 year old, infant, and I could have spent all day in there!

There is alot of shade on the lazy rivers at both. That's where we rest. We never use the chairs longer than to leave stuff and come back to get it later.

Thanks everyone! We are just going to show up early and look for shade. Our plan now is move around 12pm if the sun shifts to where we are. If the sun becomes unbearable to me, I will just set up near the quick service.

I think I am going to make it through our water park days!

I might be wrong, but I believe Coronado Springs has a direct bus to Blizzard Beach due to the proximity. The rest of the resorts require a transfer.

I have not gone to the Disney Waters in years so my information can be completely wrong.

They used to, but I think that they don't anymore.

To get to Blizzard beach, you have to transfer at AK.plan on it taking 90 minutes.

A Lyft will cost less than $10 and take 15 minutes
