How much water should an individual drink per day and what is the best type of container to drink it from to encourage that amt.? I go through ebbs and flows of drinking water in my day. Right now it's zero. In the past I have gone through months of keeping up with over 8 glasses a day. I don't like drinking water. I do add lemon. But I hate using the bathroom so much from it and I hate the taste even with lemon. It's like a chore for me. Does water really help someone with weight loss anyway? And how do you drink it and how much?

You'll get a ton of opinions on this. I think your biggest guide is your urine color. For me drinking water all day keeps me in the bathroom every 30-60 minutes. It never gets better; I never get "used to it."

Between my food intake, my hot tea intake, and another 16 oz bottle of water during the day, that seems about right for me. Urine output and color seems about right.

I have tried the drinking/sipping all day. It did nothing for my appetite.

But, as they say, your mileage may vary and what one person needs over another depends on many factors such as how active you are during the day; is it hot or cold where you are, etc. Do you eat lots of fruits and veggies which naturally have a lot of water, and so on.

I use a 20 ounce Yeti style cup throughout the day.

Keep it filled with water and ice. Bathroom trips are about every hour and a half.

Keeps me from drinking something with calories and fills me up some.

I guess I fill it about 3 to 4 times a day

Lol I’m trying to lower my water consumption (as I drink my fourth glass of the day, I’ve been up for an hour). I think you should drink half your weight in ounces, I probably drink more than that. I stop around dinner time so I can cut down on bathroom trips. Ice water is my favorite beverage, but I’ve emptied many of my kids water bottles at games and practices (it used to be a joke, they’re gone now, but they learned not yo have mom hold the bottles).

No idea how much water I drink and have never kept track of it. There is no health benefit to drinking excessive amounts of water and you can find several reputable medical websites with good information about that.

So, how much you *should* drink has a lot of answers. I'd start with 64oz a day and see how you feel, but that's just me. When I was working towards weight loss, I do think that drinking water helped, but not from sheer ounces. If I was feeling hungry before a planned meal or snack, I would drink 12-16oz of water first and see if that helped before giving in to a craving. Often, it was enough to distract me until I was ready to eat as planned.

As to how to get more water into you, I definitely have thoughts there. When I was pregnant with triplets, the goal was to drink a gallon a day because you just need more water for your body to properly refresh amniotic fluid, maintain increased blood volume, etc. Considering that there were three people taking progressively more space in my abdominal cavity, it was *hard*.

The first thing I did was get myself a 64oz water bottle with a straw. I knew I needed to have one filling done by lunch and then half before I left work for the day. (If I let too much go to the evening, then I was peeing all night, even more than baseline pregnancy peeing.)

That bottle came with me everywhere as did my phone with a water timer. It would chirp at me every 5 minutes to sip. After about 2 weeks, I was able to ditch the water timer. Drinking regularly had become habit at that point and I was taking the sips without needing the reminder. The human brain is incredibly good at creating autopilot settings once you've started building a habit.

I don't mind the taste of water, so that part I would be giving the same advice I'm sure you've read elsewhere (water flavoring packs, brewing an herbal tea and drinking iced tea instead of water, etc).

And, yes, you just have to accept that you're going to use the bathroom more when you're well hydrated. Again, you get used to it faster than you'd expect.

I am currently working on drinking more water and less decaf coffee.

I used to do well when I worked an office job and commuted by train, because I would fill my water bottle before each train trip, when I got to the office, and again at lunch. I did feel it helped me keep my weight in check.

For me, yes, it greatly aided in me losing weight. And, I notice things when I don't get enough water... my joint hurt, I gain weight, I overeat, etc.

I aim to drink about 120 oz a day - I have a giant bottle that I keep beside me. I love water, so it goes down easy. However, today I am at about 28 oz of coffee and 8 of water...I have some catching up to do :)

My wife thinks I need to drink more water.
My Doctor thinks I need to drink less water because I tend to flush out potassium and need to take a supplement.
