Hey guys. A few years back we were able to go up to, I forget which level, and go out the fire escape doors "observation decks") and stand out there to watch the fireworks. Anyone know if that's still an option?

Yes, but you'll get a better view at the viewing platform. My favorite spot is at the BLT parking entrance. There are two benches where you can sit and watch the fireworks explode over Space Mountain.

Great, I didn't know there was an observation deck. We aren't going to wdw this time, kids want to go to Universal but I thought we could pay to park and ride the monorail over to the contemporary and at least catch the show. Is that deck open to the public? Are we going to run into any issues? Thanks :)

It's on the level with the shops, Chef Mickey's and the food court. Just head out the doors toward the bridge to BLT. It's a beautiful, big deck.

If you make dinner plans at the Contemporary Resort then you do not have to pay for parking, you could park at the resort and just walk in, just let the Security Guard know at the entrance booth that you are dining for the evening and they will let you in. The viewing platform is located on the Concourse Level (Shops & Dining) of the resort, just walk towards BLT and you will see the platform to the left just before the BLT bridge, it is not necessarily the best view as there are slight obstructions from the Tommorrowland buildings (such as SM), but this also provides for a unique sight with the buildings lit up.

Another popular spot for firework viewing outside of MK park is the dock at Grand Floridian, the dock is positioned just right so that you can slightly see the Cinderella Castle in the distance, the surrounding lagoon also makes for a calming feel and the fireworks in the sky mirror on the water. There are even a few benches on the dock but they get snatched up early. After the show you can head inside to the GF main lobby and enjoy the live band!! :)

From what I was told before, the resort hotels allow up to 3 hours parking regardless if you are dining there or not. Like if you just want to tour the hotel for a bit. Has that changed?

No. I was at the GF tonight. Just for drinks, a counter service meal and to see the fireworks. I parked around 6:30 and left around 11. I was not given a time limit.
