DD wants a new watch for her birthday which is only a week before we go to Florida.

Should we wait and buy out there, or is the choice / price just as good in the UK?

Hi Hilary,
I suppose it depends on the brand,I bought a Tag in Orlando and saved about £200 on the UK price (the salesman even had a UK price list to compare)after a bit of haggling. If your looking for something less expensive then the difference may not be that great.Just a side note why not book a Disney Cruise and buy a watch in St Marten at a really silly price (Rolex,Gucci,Tag etc)OK granted you have to pay for the cruise but think what you could save on the watch!!!You see it's economics like that that's got me were I am today SKINT.

Mick.

Hilary,

My husband bought his Tag when we were in San Fransisco, 7 years ago it was a lot cheaper than in the High Street but unfortunately £70 DEARER than the Liverpool Costco!!

Mind you, that's when Costco used to be cheap..... Anyone else noticed that they've sneakily taken down the sign over the jewellery that used to say that you could get the same piece valued at nearly double what you paid?!!

Dds always seem to add a watch each to their acquisitions whilst we're there. A few years back it was Baby Gs, when they were the must-have wrist accessories and last year George bought a Kenneth Cole and Harriet talked me into a Guess one she'd seen on the internet, but which wasn't available in the UK.

I don't think you'll save much money, but buying out there seems to be part of the enjoyment. Harriet will be having a birthday whilst we're there this time and I'm sure she'll derive more pleasure from something bought in the States than she would do from Cribbs Causeway!

Dh bought a Tag in Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. Again, the saving was neither here nor there, but it's far cooler to have a watch from Saks than from H Samuel!!!

Why not try the FOSSIL watch shop in Citywalk?

I never found TAG's to be cheaper in Orlando or even their duty free. My girlfriend picked up a gucci for about 40% of what you would pay over here though.
I waited until Barbados to get my TAG & saved in excess of £400 (25%) on the UK price & £250 on the UK Duty free price ;)

Hi Bonzo

I've dropped some hints about a Fossil watch to my husband for my birthday LOL - I've seen one in Samuels here in town but I did not realise there was a Fossil shop at Citywalk - is it easy enough to find (not been before 1st visit in 3 weeks).

Thanks

What do you do about guarantees etc if you buy abroad?
I've been put off since my DH bought me a bracelet whilst he was away and unfortunately, the catch comes open too easily when I wear it but since it wasn't bought here, I can't take it back.

Most firm provide a worldwide guarantee & you can simply send the watch for repairs to your nearest dealer location. All details are usually in the booklet however, I don't think TAG honour the guarantee if bought the watch in USA. There is something about it in the booklet.

Sorry neilybeily, I meant to say she got it 40% cheaper not for 40% of the price over here! D'oh!

she'll still see that as being the bargain of the century !!

We looked for a Tag for my Wife when we went to Orlando in 2000. Don't know whether we were looking in the right places but I didn't think the prices were that great, probably more than the UK if we had paid the VAT/duty on it coming back through customs.

In the end we got a jeweller over here to knock £130 of the price, which wasn't bad going considering the list price was £800.

By the way, does anybody else think paying that sort of money for a watch is lunacy, saying that it was our 5th wedding anniversary?

Cheers
Bilboo
