RVGal-
Have they proposed any treatment for the epilepsy yet? Has he been on Phenobarb or anything like that so far? :grouphug: I know it's tough, but at least you have a diagnosis. Things should get rolling from there. Sometimes the not knowing is just as bad as the disorder itself, I know...

Threep, good to know all worked out last night for you. I was concerned!

Shay--baby, hang in there. You are one tough cookie, fer shore! I know that the treatments are kicking your butt, but you are doing great! I know that you have a wonderful support system, so that helps!

Kate (aka Tomato Butt)-can't help with the biblio, but good luck!

Dorky, glad you are back! Next time you go, take me with you. Hawaii is on my list of "I wanna go to" but I am sure it will be years before that one is possible! Can't wait to hear/see all about it!

Theresa-yum! I LOVE Southern cooking! That's why I have to do WW! Too much breaded and deep fried! (I am ALL about the breaded and deep fried, baby!) I miss living down south...:guilty:

Everyone else, If I missed you, it was unintentional. Trying to keep up on here, do laundry (again??? :laundy: ), host play dates and all kinds of winner-ish stuff. I am not succeeding at any of these at the moment though! So, if I missed you, here's a  or a :scared1: or a:lmao: just for you! :woohoo:

I love butter beans even the baby limas, but speckled butter beans with okra is to die for.

Im lost at the meat-n-three, sometimes I make just veggies. If you decide to make turnip greens you have to make buttermilk cornbread. We love pot licking.

Shore you do, ;)

its the liquid from the collard greens or turnip greens poured over a slice of buttermilk cornbread. Mmmm.

I think I will pass. It must be a southern thing for shore. I did think of you while I was in Hawaii though. I ate at Bubba Gump's and had the Bucket O Boat Trash. It was so yummy.

I had to remind the waitress to ask us trivia questions. My mom and sister had never been asked questions before at any of the resaturants. What is this world coming to?:snooty:

Oooohh, I love a test! Do we have to study for it? I think I am pretty good on the spur of the moment too. What is your test about?

I have no patience so I think I will probably fail this one. Are we waiting for something? I am no good at that, maybe we could play a game.

He has been on Dilantin since he had his first seizures in January. We are now in the process of switching him to Topamax, which the neurologist says has a much better absorption rate in kids. It is a long slow switch, allowing the Topamax to build up in his system and then weaning him from the Dilantin.

I said I wanted an answer and I got one... I just didn't get the answer I wanted. I'm just so darn hard to please!

We have vegetable plates around here. Or, you can have a "plate"... which means you want a meat and 2 veggies, plus bread. There are usually 3 meats to choose from and at least 8 or 10 veggies. Bread means dinner roll or cornbread. If you have turnip greens, you must have cornbread. It is the law. If you fail to order/serve cornbread with your turnip greens, you will be hauled to the county line at gunpoint.

Leftover, slightly stale cornbread is often coated in turnip green drippings or buttermilk. I personally don't like that particular dish, but it is popular. Cornbread around here is not sweet, so don't think of the corn muffins and whatnot that they have elsewhere.

Wow, sounds like lots of us are having fun with doctors, huh?:grouphug:

You know I once told friends over drinks that you can tell when you're an "adult" because your over drinks conversation goes from "He's cute, will he dance with me" to "My Gyno says...." :rotfl:

Well, results time...I feel sorta like an American Idol contestant. Go to the couch, you're safe, wait stand here, you're on the fence, go to the stool you failed, go to the couch you're safe. Well, we'll see what they say, you may or may not be back next week.

Fasting want to be under 95 - I read 75 (yea)
1 hour want to be under 180 - I read EXACTLY 180
2 hour want to be under 155 - I read 157 (fail, but you can fail one level and still pass overall)
3 hour want to be under 140 - I read 124

So, the lab techs say according to what they entered it says I pass, but the doctor might not like the 180 reading. Clear as mud right?

So I went and ate Cracker Barrel with my friend and hubby joined us. Felt good to eat.

I was hungry when I got up. Went to the office, had blood stick, drank fluid. Didn't feel 100% about half an hour later. About an hour and a half in and I felt better. Between hours 2 and 3 I started to get hungry again.

So, I think I'll try calling the office in a little while, but I think his nurse is off on Friday afternoons.

I would think that those numbers would be good. At the worst, you would be considered borderline, right? So, maybe they'll want to control your diet or check you more often?

Trying to think positive. :goodvibes

My word! Disney should just put me on their payroll, I swear! So, our playdate today ended up with me helping to plan my friend's trip to WDW in Feb. (Believe me, I don't mind one bit! :goodvibes ) and I just now got off the phone with my neighbor who is trying to plan her trip for Sept. Of course, I have already helped plan my cousin's trip in June. Oh, and of course there is MY trip in Sept. as well! I LOVE the Mouse, but I really think I should look at getting paid for this! :mickeyjum

I can't make cornbread to save my life. My dad was born/raised in Mississippi, my mom in Iowa, but she learned all the southern cooking. She tried to teach me, but I never could learn. I can do a mix OK..sounds good, I think I'll go and pick one up, better than nothing.

I use this brand to make my cornbread. If you follow the instructions it is good stuff.

I love pepper sauce on my turnip greens. (pepper sauce for those who do not know is a little bottle of tiny yellow/green peppers in vinegar that you shake the hot/spicy vinegar onto your greens. cuts some of the grease form the bacon grease and tastes yummy.) You are correct, no self respecting southerner would put sugar or honey in their cornbread mix.

Hey.

I've been reading when I can, but I haven't been able to post much. DS2 is finally getting better, so that's the good news. I had the appt with the pediatric neurologist yesterday. DS6 has been diagnosed with epilepsy. That's a big scary word to me, but it really just means that there is an area of his brain that is prone to seizures. There is still a good chance he could outgrow it. I'm still trying to absorb it, so I'll admit I'm in a bit of a shell shocked state.

I feel like I just drop in, give medical updates, and then leave. I hope that will change soon. I want to be able to contribute as much as I read. It feels like I'm learning about all of you, but I haven't had the opportunity to tell you much about me. Sigh.
I hope it all works out. Let me know if I can do anything for you.
Just popping in to say good morning before I head off to my glucose test. Wish me luck, cross fingers, etc. I shore am hungry tho. Will post when I get home what I find out.
I hope it all went well.
