Our usual fall trip is to Disney World, but it's Mom and Dad's 40th anniversary this year and we're heading to where they honeymooned: Williamsburg and D.C. We have a hotel for Virginia, but we're not sure where to stay in D.C. Does anyone have any suggestions for a hotel close enough to walk to the Metro?

Thanks in advance!
Karen

If I were you I'd stay in Crystal City....

There are two Marriotts right on top of the Crystal City Metro stop---it's the Marriott Crystal Gateway and the Marriott Crystal City...

I can't remember which one has the Metro Station "in the basement" but I want to say it's the Crystal City Marriott. There's a Hilton, Embassy Suites and a Sheraton right in the same area, but a little walk from the Metro.

Me personally, I would avoid downtown. But that's just me.

Lucky me, I get to travel to DC a good bit, and I always stay in one of these Marriotts.

We stayed in Alexandria. I loved that. There is a metro stop there and several hotels within walking distance. It was really nice to be able to just casually stroll around in the evenings in Alexandria. Old Town was a lot of fun too.

I used to live in Old Town many years ago and I really like that area. Last year I went to DC with the kids to visit family and see the sites. We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott on Duke street. It was about a 3 block walk to the King street metro. It was very doable for us. There was also a great Whole Foods on the next block and all the rooms have full kitchens. Breakfast is included as well. I think you pay extra for parking though. If you don't feel like cooking there are tons of good restaurants in Old Town. Some of them are a bit of a walk from the hotel, but there are parking garages in the downtown area. I know there are some hotels that are directly next to the metro in that area too. The Residence Inn was the right price for us and we ended up with a two bedroom suite. If you do end up staying in Old Town try to go on a nighttime ghost tour (walking). They're a lot of fun.

We took the free trolly into Old Town for dinner several nights. We never needed a car at all. We took the metro from the Regan airport even.
