This is so sad to admit but I've lived in Norfolk, VA for 18yrs and have never been to DC!!

But that's going to change December 28th!!! (if the weather is ok)

So, how busy do you think it will be December 28th thru December 31st? (Heading home December 31st)

Thanks in advance
Michelle

The week between Christmas and New Years is/was always a slower time in the DC area for tourist season. Many hotels offer discounts because they don't get any business travelers (which is much of the business). Especially in areas like Crystal City which get a big business traveler clientele. I remember one year, the Hyatt was offering a $99 per night room rate that week when it was usually about $230.

My mom, who loves museums and stuff, always treks into town during that week. Business is brisk but nothing like the summer or spring break.

I think you picked a good time to go.

Also, Metro traffic as well is driving traffic is a bit lighter during the rush hours but can be hectic locally becaues people are home and driving all over the place.

I have found restaurants to be quite busy all week during that week.
