A friend of mine owns a fire and water restoration company. They go in and clean peoples houses when they have had fires or water damages. When they had fires a group of women from church would go clean., It was like our part time job. We always used a pinesol water mix. Great on walls and wood work and it leaves a great smell. I still use it.
There is an excellent product called Krud Kutter. I have used it for years-great for those spots that the dog keeps brushing up against until you realize it's gotten dirty! I find it in the paint department at Home Depot. If the wall is especially difficult I have used it with a Magic Eraser. Of course, you should test your own walls before doing the whole job. Bravo to you for taking on this job!

I have to do this myself. I recently tried using the Mr. Clean Eraser to clean a small area, and it did a great job. But then I realized that the rest of the wall looked so dirty with this clean spot there. So now I have to do all the walls. I wish my DH would take on that job for me.
