Unfortunately, our washer died yesterday and we need to purchase a new one ASAP.Our local box store is having a sale that ends tonight so we have to make a decision quickly. I also have a pretty big pile of clothes building up.

Our budget is tight b/c this was a total surprise. We know that we want a top loader. We were not happy with our front loader. It has been narrowed down to a Maytag washer without an agitator and a GE with an agitator. Honestly, I would prefer the agitator b/c I heard that the clothes get cleaner. However, the GE did not get reviews as high as the Maytag. Also, it was our GE that almost caught our house on fire:-( Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Same situation for us this past summer. We ended up buying a set as our dryer was pretty old too. We got a Kenmore top loader washer from Sears. I got 12 months same as cash by using a sears card.

We bought one last year without an agitator and I like it. I like having the larger size with the agitator so we can clean quilts. Otherwise I would have to go to a laundry to do them.

We have a GE Adora top loader with agitator and I love it. We've had it for over a year now with no problems at all. It also holds more than my old Maytag did, so I can do fewer loads.

I feel your pain. In the last month we have replaced a refrigerator and a washer. Both of them have been Whirlpool. Bought both of them at Lowe's and was told that Whirlpool is the only brand still made in the US. Don't know if that is true but have had very good results from our other Whirlpool appliances. I got a top load washer without an agitator. Was different at first but I am loving it. I had a GE and it didn't last 2 years.

Thanks for all of the advice. We decided on the GE with the agitator. I was afraid to go the other way b/c we had no luck with our front loader. I am hoping that we made the right decision.
