It was a good job until I got laid off. On the street for about 2 months and then got another job. Similar work, but did not pay as well as the one I lost.

Not really. Every next job I've ever taken paid more than the previous one. I had one I really enjoyed but the company had funding issues and several layoffs that eventually hit me.

But I'm not sure how to account for inflation.
