Was told by a Disney representative that Disney is phasing out the Dining Plan...

I heard a rumor that they may be ending the Disney Dining Experience Card, which is not the same as the Disney Dining Plan. Since they have advertised the Disney Dining Plan for 2006 packages, I think it's safe to say it will be here through the end of the year at least.

I agree with previous posts.....CMs mean well, but they sometimes pass information to guests that isn't always accurate. They may be planning to re-do the dining plan, but I doubt they are going to get rid of it.

We are booked for the dinning plan in August. This will be our 3rd trip scence 2001 and each time the dinning plan has changed. :( I would hate to go without it. We always joke that we eat our way through Disney. I think it's just so much more popular now because it is so much cheeper than in the past. :cool2:

I sent an email in December to inquire about the DDE being available to AP holders in 2006. The response was that there were no plans to discontinue the DDE, either. But of course, that may change in 2007.

Zulaya, do you think that because I was only able to sign back on around 12 or so hours after I posted my message that I have evil intentions? :confused3

I find it interesting that Zulaya hasn't come back to answer this question posed by The6ofUs... :rotfl2:

Hi there,

I've bookjed my Honeymoon for September 25th 2006 with Virgin Holidays, late last year Virgin wirhdrew from the Disney Dining Plan due to "contractural problems" I argued the point with them after I called Disney and was told I could not booked it with them or as a stand alone product, flights/acccom/tickets and DDP have to be booked with same tour op.

Virgins explaination for this was guests werre arriving in resort without the entire length of stay passes and virgin were having to pay for every meal, as the clients had pre-purchased the DDP with virgin in the UK.

After arguing with Virgin they have allowed me to book 17 days DDP for 25 September - so after all that I would agree Disney are not withdrawing it

You all have to admit that from time to time, there are people who come to the boards, drop some bombshell news that gets people all excited and/or worried, yet they never come back to answer questions about the sources of their information, or the questions people pose. I just posted what I did to get people to stop and think and not overreact. Unfortunately, trolls do exist. It seems that The6ofus was speaking only about group travel, but inadvertently stated her info in a way that made some think the DP was going away for all. You have to admit that that wasn't clear in her original post.

Dvc members are now allowed to book the dining plan for trips *beginning* in April. I doubt they would go to that trouble and then dump the plan this summer.

CM's mean well, but their info is not that reliable.

Any word on if they'll make the dining plan available to AP holders?

I think group travel can sell meal vouchers. Although you don't get the same bang for the dollar it is a way to prepay your meals and get some savings.

Can you please tell me how you did this, I have just had an argument with an idiot woman in India telling me that what you have done couldn't have been done and refusing to let me have a number for Virgin in the UK, if it is not on their scripts they are useless so ended up putting the phone down. So please for these of us trying to get this plan via virginontheridiculus tell us how.

We've called and asked over and over...nothing indicates at this time that its going anywhere. Disney has had some type of dining plan since I can remember, though its changed from time to time, the point of it has always been the same. I highly doubt they would remove this, as it would take alot of people away from the TS restaurants, as having the plan is the only way a great deal of people can afford to eat there. Trust that Disney isn't losing money on this deal...for every person like myself that is "in the know" about how to best maximize the plan, there are two or three people that arrive with no ADRs and eat at food courts for their table service option.....I've seen it a thousand times.

I'd be suprised if they did - as the discounts are generally larger than other discounts, and we can get the DDE card.

Zulaya, I wasn't unclear nor did I inadvertently state misinformation in my original post. I just shared what a Disney representative told me that was happening to all of Disney, not just groups. Then other kind and courteous people in this thread helped us to clear up the group thing. A simple, "Sorry guys, I jumped the gun and didn't mean to attribute evil intentions to The6ofUs." would've been nice, but I'm good natured, so all is well. It was worth it to get a chuckle from everyone else's response to you. ;) You guys are the best!

Well Virgin take the biscuit, according to Virgin. The disney dining plan doesn't exist, or disney will not allow anyone buying a holiday through a travel agent to buy it. I have had enough I am going after my money back.
