there's a small newsstand in the lobby of my office building. they carry newpapers, magazines, snacks, drinks...that sort of thing.

so it' late afternoon and I need a soda. I head down there and...

there's one other customer in the shop. she's chatting on her cell phone. she places a bottle of Poland Spring on the counter. the clerk rings up the sale. I am next in line. however, instead of taking her bottle of water and walking away, and still chatting on the phone, she goes over to the cough drop display and picks up a package of Halls, then over the the chewing gum display and picks up some Wrigleys...and asks the clerk to ring those items up. she ends her cell phone conversation and tells me..."I wasn't finished, I just put the bottle down and he rang it up..."

and I'm biting my tongue to keep from saying "If you weren't jabbering on that cell phone you could have told him so..."

Oh yeah, that was rude and one of my pet peeves.
I also hate it when the clerk in on the phone or chatting with another clerk.

I think it is. I hate it when someone talks on the phone while they're at the checkout counter....it's like, "Come one people...pay attention!"

Don't get me started about people on cell phones! eeerrrrrhhhhh!!!!
 :headache: :sad2:

Don't you know they are the center of the universe and we all revolve around them!

It amazes me that not less then 10 years ago...cell phones were not a huge thing.
Now people can't go 3 feet without it.

I for one am NOT a phone person...hate talking on the phone...hate calling people up unless I 100% have to. Yes I do have a cell...but I could live without it.

Yeah, I agree it is inconsiderate. I wouldn't get my knickers in a knot over it though. :teeth:

Inconsiderate yes; rude no.

Don't the two usually go hand in hand?

SPAM! get your mind outta that gutter NOW! you're too young!

heheheh

Yes, it was rude.

The post offices in our town and several other businesses have recently put up little signs at their checkout registers that say something like, "If you are using your cell phone when you reach the counter, please step aside and allow the next customer to checkout while you finish your call." I think that is fair. It's too hard to complete an accurate, quick transaction with a customer who is preoccupied with their phone call.

hey, i cant help it. and im 18, a perfect age for my mind to be in the gutter. :teeth:

It was definitely rude. Every time I get behind one of those people, it never seems to me that they having such a critical conversation that they can't call the person back. "So you're saying the hospital called and said they have a new heart for me?" or "You've been charged with murder and need me to post bail" are the only conversations I can think of that would require someone to stay on the line.

Me too! And I don't have voice mail on it.

And that was rude.

Yes it was rude of her, she sounds like one of those people who think they are the only ones in the whole wide world. They irk me to no end. Loud cell phone chatters, the people who leave their carts in the middle of the aisle at the grocery store then give you a dirty look when you say excuse me and try to get through, people who don't stop at 4 way stops and just expect everyone else to let them go as if they are special or something. Grrrr! /end rant
