the way you view something. ? mine was Rodney King, any time I heard of Police brutality, I thought "you deserved it" , and hated when people went after Cops. But after that I still support the Cops but if there is a complaint about them, I got both ears open

Maybe a little different, but a ball rolling in front of my car changed the way I drive - and my view on personal responsibility.

Almost being smashed to bits by a semi running a red light on a two lane highway made me change my life. In the moment that followed I made a decision that I hadn't been able to make for ten years and I finally moved on to a much better life.

I will have to think about it. The ones coming to mind are either religious or political! :coffee:

Funny I always distrusted them...grew up calling them pigs.:(

I got burglarized once in NY and the took the report, rolled their eyes and said forgetaboutit, lady, you're never gonna see your crap again.:furious:

Years later in Atlanta when my son was 2 I came downstairs and found a man standing in my living room late at night. I ran upstairs, called 911 trying not to upset my son who was potty training:blush:. Literally seconds later about 5 police officers came running thru my patio door (where the crook came in from) guns drawn!!

As I'm looking out the window my CAT walks out the patio doors and wanders off!! :scared1: I screamed "MY CAT"!!! The woman on the 911 call told me NOT to worry and to not open the door till they tell her it's them at my door.

I kept looking out the window crying for my cat. A few minutes later a police officer came out of the dark holding my kitty. They checked the house and reassured me the guy was gone. Even better he never got a thing, I just so happened to go downstairs just as he walked in.:thumbsup2

I have loved and respected them ever since!

just like every profession most are good people and a few bad ones ( I just dont like how often the defend each other even if they know one is a bad cop)

Short answer - having children!

Longer answer - my son was in an accident in the second grade and suffered a head injury and serious facial injuries. The first two weeks were very difficult, and he looked very different for over a year. I knew that for some folks, what I was having to do for him early in his recuperation is a life long responsibility. They are my heroes.

He is a young police officer now, and I see the kindness he shows to those who are facing personal crises and his courage without hesitation to help those who are in need and to deal with some very dangerous individuals. Some of his fellow officers have been injured, shot or struck by vehicles, and he has had some close calls himself (though he doesn't tell his mama everything). He and his fellow officers are bitterly disappointed in those who bring shame upon their profession. I wish I loved my job the way he loves his. It's too bad that we rarely hear about the day to day jobs our emergency workers do - the media usually just reports the "spectacular" parts or the occasional bad apple. I have a clearer understanding now of what they do and the difficulties of the job.

Much like the medical profession.

My high school was set on fire, while it was full of students. I was in English class and the fire alarm went off. Thinking it was just a drill, we all took our time getting out. Not slow, but not urgently. In my minds eye I can still see the smoke and flames that were shooting out the roof as we exited. Turns out, one of the former students who was working as a janitor had torched it. We were out of school for five weeks and there was $7 million in damage. From that day forward, if I hear a fire alarm or smoke detector, I get outside as quickly as possible. I don't panic but I assume it is real.

I had a teacher in middle school who lost a toddler to a drunk driver who ran a stop sign, plowed into their front yard and killed one child and seriously injured the other.

I vowed to never ever drink and drive - to this day and I am almost 50, I can honestly say I have never had a drink and then driven a car. I just won't do it. I love a good cocktail but if I don't have a driver, I stick with tonic water and a twist of lime.

The 1992 Olympics. It sounds funny but I was steamed. A gymnast that had made it on to the team after the trials was left off due to her not having the "look" they wanted. They went on and on about how badly they felt, but I realized that life is really all about politics. It is about who you know and who likes you. I have never looked at that sport or life the same since.

Car accident in January 2013. Changed my life and my views about many things. Most not in a good way.

When I lost one of my best friends to a brain aneuryism our junior year of high school. I miss her like crazy!

All the freed people from death row. Imagine being so keen to get a conviction you will make sure that you get a man you know is innocent put behind bars. Plus what on earth makes a cop think it's ok on carer day to taser a 10 year old for not cleaning your patrol car.

I actually work on a team, or rather volunteer my time a few hours a week that helps people get out of jail that have been wrongfully convicted. Recently a woman of this caliber here locally died of cancer. She spent almost 14 years in jail for being found guilty of killing her daughter. She was freed as DNA evidence came to light and the local ME changed their ruling on the autopsy report. She won a lawsuit for 2 million dollars against the state recently been then found out she had cancer. She just died during the night a couple of days ago and I feel so bad for her family, which I know personally. Her husband raised their twin boys practically by himself and never left her side during her incarceration.

I feel so bad that she didn't live long enough to enjoy the money but at least her family will be well taken care of.

I used to be really strict on how I viewed Juvenile Justice-teens should be charged as adults, etc. I even wrote several essays about it for a criminal justice class I was in.

However due to some recent events that are very personal to my family, I've been really re-thinking my views on it. It's different when it's someone you know.

Also, a car accident I was in a few months prior. Really changed a lot of things.

Having a child. This has been the single most important life changing thing that has happened to me. My thoughts and views and opinions are all so much different

The first time I saw people living in true abject poverty, while traveling abroad, changed how I think about humanity in general.
