was the service your way gift card worth having no mousekeeping?

Not worth it to us-LOVE heading to the Parks leaving an unmade bed, towels on the bathroom floor, trash in the can, etc. and then coming back from the Parks to a "Check-in ready" room!

Vacation at WDW to us means no hassle of driving a car and no "housework"!

Not enough money involved to "sway" us.

But I see we are a big minority!lol :)
I do not take up this offer. I'm on vacation and I want the bed made, trash emptied and fresh towels everyday!!
I could handle it if I was alone in a room, but add anyone else and no way I'm giving bed, trash, towels taken care of.
I’m with you both. When I’m on vacation, I don’t want to worry about cleaning up and remembering to call for more towels etc. We usually stay in a room with a kitchen, so housekeeping runs the dishwasher too.

I have done without maid service once, but I constantly had wet, dirty towels to deal with and I don't think towel drop-offs outside my door counted as a daily room check because I also had ill-timed, irritating room checks each afternoon I tried to nap. I also never really figured out what to do with garbage and felt sneaky try to shove my trash in various cans around the resort! LOL. It sounds like many people handle this much better than I did!

Skipping it again this coming trip. Nice getting the extra $ and it’s my DD and I and we aren’t messy. We are in the parks all day so security checks not a problem. Easy enough to make a call or get some if cart is close by

We took the card. The mousekeepers we had at POR went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed when we called for service, offering to take trash and recycling out when they came to bring clean towels (and pick up dirty ones) and refresh coffee. It was super easy and quick to call for a refresh each day when we got back for our afternoon break.

I’m with you guys if it was just me I’d do it but my 2 guys are messy and I have to straighten the room before I can sleep... we stayed at a hotel this weekend and coming in after lunch to a spotless room made me so happy! I’m actually paying extra for it as we are staying on points.

OK I have seen this several times so will ask the dumb question: how do you request no service and get this gift card? While I like a check-in ready room every time we return from the Parks, my wife hates people coming in the room after we leave. She also hates that I, and yes I admit it is a problem of mine... I clean the room for the room service person. I literally clean the room to prep the room to be cleaned. I even nailed down the ice bucket room trash can as "our trash can". It drives my wife batty.

So I told her about these conversations and she said, we're doing that next time.

I do not give up housekeeping, however I will often take my towels to the service cart if it is close by the room. I also ask the CM if I can take a few extra towels, (The last trip we had teen girls, the towels flew off the shelf) and the CM was happy to oblige.
If you do not want to call housekeeping, peek outside the door and any CM cleaning will help you with towels etc. You can also use toss your trash out if they have the trash cart close by.

It’s available at value and moderate resorts and you can ask about it at check in. I think it’s also available to add on from the app now as well.

We've always considered it but once we get there we always forget about it and they've never asked. Honestly though I like fresh towels and having my bed made. It just seems like one more thing I'd have to think about while on vacation. Our next trip we will be staying in a DVC so I won't even have mousekeeping, it's already worrying me but my husband said he promises to make the bed for me everyday.

I have never done this because I want the trash emptied and fresh towels each day.
however, I do make our own beds and tidy up for the housekeepers! Then I have to write a note each day asking them to NOT make the bed. LOL!

i also prefer housekeeping to room checks, so..not worth it for us

I accidnetally signed up at Pop the first time but loved it! I would just stop by the front desk in the mornings and let them know whatever I needed (I'm hearing impaired and don't do well on the phone) and it was there when I got back for the day.

My last trip was at POFQ and they did NOT have garbage bags provided. I had more issues with them because of confusion with that. I finally found someone who explained they did not have them and I should just leave the trash outside the door when it needed emptied.

I'm going back to Pop in 11 days and plan to do it again! I like not having my bathroom sink messed up by housekeeping tidying up!

Definitely worth it. I feel like I spend more time straightening up when I know housekeeping is coming.
No regrets here! I usually try to keep housekeeping out of my room anyway, since I'm a clean and tidy person and I don't like people touching my stuff. Usually the do not disturb sign is always on the door. So the option to get money for something I'm already doing is a dream!

The combination of these 2 posts is why dollars for declining housekeeping is the best thing to happen to us.
Not only do we get paid to not a have a service I didn’t want anyways but we also save the $5 tip per day as well.

I would say it should all be done based on you and your trip. For my family, disney is a vacation away from the hustle of everyday life. We did not take the gift card. It was great (4 kids 2 adults) coming home to a made bed, fresh towels and no garbage smell. (1 in diapers still). They also would put the kids toys/ stuffed animals in fun positions that the kids would look forward too. The down side is that we would leave a tip each day so it did cost more. Again, to us it was worth it so we could enjoy each other and spend our energy on the time together.
If it was just my wife and I, we totally would have taken the gift card.

I'm in the camp that when I'm on vacation, I want others to do the chores for me. At home, I don't feel like the room is tidy until the bed is made and I don't want to spend time doing that at WDW. Having no responsibilities or "business" to attend to is part of the bubble vacation experience for me.

That said, a $30 gift card means you're there 3 nights right? A 3 night stay without housekeeping is easier to tolerate than a longer stay. But $30 doesn't make or break anything for me, even on the most strictly budgeted trips.

After reading all these, we will take advantage of this next time. I already tidy the beds, pick up the room and take the trash out in preparation for the house keeping cleaning. Yes... I admit I have a problem. :)

But if this gets us a little something to spend elsewhere in the parks because I already am a freak, then I guess that's good! Plus my wife would be far less concerned about people coming in the room after we leave.

If you decline housekeeping and take the gift card, you will still receive daily security checks.
