Was the line at Earl of Sandwich during lunch time busy because of Free Dining?

Last month when my family and I were at WDW on the day we checked out of the Contemporary we then went to Downtown Disney for a while before we checked-in at the Boardwalk, so we had planned to have lunch at Earl of Sandwich. Now we walked in there around 1:00 PM and I was surprised at how long the line was, however we decided to stay and the line did keep moving. Anyway since it happened to be Free Dining is that why they were so busy, because I didn't think they would be that busy during that time of day.

Probably not...

Long lines at lunch are VERY normal there (Look at the guests, at least SOME of them actually work at the Disney offices nearby)

I agree! We went in January (without free dining going on) and the lines there were crazy at lunch time.

PP is probably right on about commuters because you could walk onto Dumbo in 5 minutes, but would have waited forever for a sandwich!

It's the Same at WPE Marketplace We had lunch 2x at WPE last year.Wasn't too bad on Sunday but on Wednesday there were alot of people there in business casual.

Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express are always busy. They have been busy every time we've been there for both lunch and dinner. Both restaurants have good food and are popular. It has nothing to do with free dining.

It was busy because it is goooooooooood! Haha! :rotfl2:

I make a point to eat there several times when I travel to Orlando and even get an extra sandwich to eat while on the plane.

I've always encountered the deceptively long line. As you said, the line keeps moving, so it's never felt like an agonizingly long wait.

sorry to ask but I am a DVC member and we dont get free dinning...so my question is when is free dinning? or when was it?

It is usually busy and 1PM would be a popular lunch time so would expect it to busy as most lunch places in and out of DW are busy 1130-130 for lunch crowds in the US

"Free Dining" is a resort package that pretty much requires you pay full rack rate on a room and some sort of ticket included. They give you the Disney Dining Plan "free" if you purchase the other stuff. There are plenty of dates in 2011 to choose from if people want to go that route. In the past, it was offered late August through the end of September (or first few days of October) check in dates. Since the stock market crash late 2008, they were extending the free dining offer dates.

They offer the quick service dining plan for Value resort stays, and the basic (aka "regular") dining plan for Moderate or Deluxe stays.

When you're a DVC member, you'd pay for the dining plan as an add on. I prefer not to do the DDP and use the Tables in Wonderland card.

I think TisBit thought your response to me was a bit rude, but I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to message board comments. I wasn't offended, and I thought I offered a better answer the second time around.

We have found it to be really busy even when eating dinner at 4pm before we went to Cirque during Value season. Never seen it not busy no matter what time of day.
