was the house you grew up in your parents ideal home?

It was pretty much like everybody else’s house in my neighborhood, 2 story older home. I’m sure it was all my parents could afford but I never really thought about it then.

My dad was a contractor and they built their dream home which we lived in until I was in middle school.
But, when my grandpa passed away and grandma couldn't manage the farm on her own, they bought the farm and we all moved into her very outdated farmhouse.
I don't think it was their preferred home, it needed a lot of work to make it livable for 7 people, it was likely a stretch on their budget, but they weren't willing to let it go. They still live there today.

My dad's farmhouse was kind of his pet project and he was constantly renovating. He eventually built his/stepmom's dream house but I never lived there.

Yes. My parents first house was a shack on 5 acres and over 10 years they built a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house around the shack. I was three when they sold it and bought a brand new house on 1/2 acre in a nice neighborhood which I would say THAT was their ideal home. The new house cost half what they sold the old one for, so they moved up to a nice house and put money in the bank and didn't have to keep up 5 acres.

Yes. My dad walked by our home every day on his way to school, purchased it when he was 30, nicest street in town. It was built in the 1800’s, was always on the yearly historical home tour, beautiful antique furniture, always looked perfect. He loved to take people on a tour. A few weeks before we were going to have to put him in assisted living (he didn’t know), he had a fatal heart attack, his wake was the same day as my appointment to sign the papers.
