Was talk show host Mike Douglas also gonna provide the speaking voice for Prince Charming in Cinderella?

When I was watching the DVD bonus features of the Cinderella Special Edition DVD I learned that talk show host Mike Douglas was auditioning for both the speaking and singing role of Prince Charming but although they liked his audition of Prince Charming's speaking voice Mike was chosen to perform the singing voice of Prince Charming instead when they were casting for Cinderella. And the reason why Mike Douglas auditioned for Prince Charming was he badly needed the money because his wife had just given birth to twin sons at the time. Is this true?. I never knew Mike Douglas did cartoon voices and it was surprising to see Mike provide the singing voice of Prince Charming in Cinderella because he went on to be a talk show host in the 60's and 70's
