Was I wrong to respond to rudeness with more rudeness?

Guys, we're being trolled, but I must admit, it's one of the funnier troll jobs I've seen in a while. Some of the posts are downright hilarious. Even the deleted posts were comedy gold!

He's just a ray of ... sunshine. Happened to read a few of his other posts....similar to these posts here.

Are people with disabilities not supposed to work now? Should we just put them in a pen bc they didn't provide the right level of white glove service? I understand that watching The Rock call Mother Nature a jabroni requires 5 star service, but maybe screaming at a teenager is not the best way to achieve it?

Are you just making this up as we go along? The twists and turns you are pulling from the sky and throwing in are really starting to show you are only just :stir: and arguing, just to argue.

Be careful, you may get some more points (I see one of your posts were deleted already).

Nope. Respect is a two way street. And stop pretending you are at a cinema. Order your raisenettes and move on. Read the OP's post, is it ok to respond to rudeness with more rudeness? Seriously? Yea Pal, it sure is. In fact I would make sure the cashier got fired for ruining your time with the Rock.

You aren't being trolled. Being rude to someone makes you a jerk; even if you think they deserve it. Being rude to someone for not acknowledging you (the way you think is correct) at a movie theater makes you a big jerk. You don't need me to point that out, your wife already did that. To be honest I would care more that my wife thought I was being rude.

At a toll booth?! How hard is it to just pay and go? Why do you need a hello/thank you for a 30 second transaction. Pay the toll and go!
Thank you. THANK YOU - say it with me...takes 1 second, tops and it's this bare modicum of civility that separates us from the animals.

What'd I miss??

That's the pot-stirrer calling the kettle black!

How do you know the cashier didn't have an invisible disability? Perhaps he was on the spectrum and as such has limited social interactions. Maybe instead of attacking someone who may/may not have an invisible disability you act like an aduly, order your popcorn and watch the earthquake movie.

Highly unlikely that he did. He was not trained correctly. All that he would have to say is Hi, Welcome to XXX Cinema, How may I help you today. At the end of the transaction, Thank You and Enjoy your Movie. Much better than making a gesture with his hands. Now the OP could have done it better, but he did point out the problem.

By the way, Speaking of Trival. You seem to be spending alot of time on a simple thread. This not a thread on Solving World Hunger but the asking of an opinion on an action taken. So in your words, Move on

I appreciate customer service and I'm not saying the employee was right, but the arrogance of your post is astounding. I hope for that kids sake that "the biggest favor of this kid's life" isn't some customer giving him some attitude back.

Do I think the gesture was good customer service? Nope, but reading this thread I am quite surprised by the number of people who overestimate their importance.

It's great if the folks at the toll booth say something, but they're not there for CS. They're there to enforce the government tolls. Being upset that they didn't thank you seems a bit wonky to me.

I have learned just as much from Negative Feedback as Positive Feedback. Saying nothing would not have helped the young person understand the importance of positive customer interaction. I don't blame the young person, I blame the management of the cinema for poor training.

Regarding the bolded.... EXACTLY! The clerk started the tone with only a hand gesture. What he got in return, was similar treatment.

From my perspective, the OP set the tone by waiting there and not beginning his order (if it's later stated that the clerk didn't initiate any eye contact, I'll change my opinion on this). However, the clerk greatly escalated the situation with the hand gesture, which I find to be extremely rude.

Clerk - Mildly poor customer service skills when he didn't properly greet the OP. Not worth commenting on in my opinion.
OP - Passive aggressive rudeness by waiting to be greeted. [This is actually annoys me most about the OP's behavior]
Clerk - Extremely rude and very poor customer service gesture
OP - Snarky response. [I do agree that a correction of they clerk was appropriate, but just think the OP's response was too snarky and lost some of its effectiveness due to that.]

I might have been slightly peeved at the counter guy, but I probably would have just silently rolled my eyes and thought "what can you expect from kids these days?" Maybe I would have complained slightly to my wife later.

But I don't fault the OP at all for how he handled things.
