but since I don't have much luck with my questions (and I need a fairly quick response), I decided to ask the board.

Does Disney take travellers cheques?

I am trying to find out what payment method to use whilst at Disney, and this would really help in me trying to make a decision.

Thanks to anyone who knows, or can find out, the answer!

I know that they did many years ago and am sure that is still the case. I just use my debit card while at the World, but understand you are coming from much further away and hidden fees might apply.

Hi Kate,

They do take traveler's checks.

The larger stores would certainly take checks from you. You might have issues if you were trying to use one at the popcorn cart or something like that.

If you are looking to just cash a check, you would need to do that at your hotel or Guest Services.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Kevin! :thumbsup2

Its probably the safest way to have money abroad for me, and if Disney will take them, mores the better! Debit cards cost a bomb to use outside Europe (although we would take them in the case of an emergency) so we'd like to minimise that happening.

We will bring some cash too, for incidentals, but we are trying to budget how much to take with us. It's all a bit confusing.

Keep in mind that traveler's checks can also be cashed in guest services on Main Street.

Interestingly, they will also convert foreign currency into good ol' American cash according to the exchange rate that day...

And (I just found this out) you can actually pay for you TS meal (Over $20 US) with foreign currency. (no coins) Not that anyone would want to do that, but I found it fascinating... :goodvibes

What we've done in the past is attach a credit card to the room key and then charged everything to the room. The night before checking out (or whenever you are nearing the room limit) go down to the front desk and used traveler's cheques to pay the amount so that nothing is charged to the credit card.

You can also put so much on your room account in travlers cheques.. say $500 then just use your KTTWC

The last time I cashed traveller's cheques at my WDW hotel, in spite of the fact I had my KTTW, I also had to provide a photo i.d. As I recall, they wanted a driver's license or similar i.d.

That was exactly my plan! I am glad someone else has done the same, will make me a little less nervous about it! It also means I won't have to worry so much about dual signatures for my boyfriend and I.

Thanks, they usually need ID to cash them anyway, so I will keep mine with me.

Have you looked into getting a pre paid Visa card

BTW I have been asked for ID when using my visa card in some of the shopping malls too becauce I had none with me had to leave the Apple store empty handed

Another thing that is nice about travelers checks is that they do not expire. So if you don't spend everything, you can either keep them until you need them again or you can change them back to cash when you get back home. Can't do that with a prepaid Visa card.

This is what we do too.

When I tried to get travellers checks for my trip to Japan, my bank didn't carry them any more. You might be better off using your ATM card.

I would, but the transaction fees outside the UK are outrageous! There is one or two banks that don't charge so I am looking at joining them, but its all a bit complicated!

Banks and post offices here still do Travellers Cheques, and if Disney accepts them, then I'm all good! :goodvibes
