This article was in our local paper this morning:

"SANTEE-Motorists on one of the most heavily traveled Interstates in South Carolina can expect heavy traffic jams during September.

The State Department of Transportation is starting repairs on the northbound lane of the Interstate 95 bridge over Lake Marion at Santee.

Officials say a routine inspection found the concrete on the deck of the bridge built in the late 1960s is deteriorating. The bridge is safe, but repairs are needed.

Construction work begins September 12 and northbound traffic will be limited to one lane traveling at 45mph 24 hours a day. Wide trucks and overweight loads will be routed around the construction expected to be completed in mid-November.

Motorists are warned to expect heavy congestion, especially on weekends. I-95 is the main north-south route from Maine to Florida."

A heads up to my fellow dishers who have been so helpful to us in the past.
Be safe !!

Very useful info. We should keep this bumped UP.

Good info.
Thank you.
We will traveling South bound the last weekend of October.
And then returning the beginning of December.
I hope the weather cooperates and I miss all of this .

Thanks for the info. I will be heading southbound on the 9th and returning on the 18th.

Thanks for the info! It is nice to know in advance!
Seems they are always doing work somewhere on 95. :headache:

A thanks for the heads up.
They will detour the wide loads, heavy vehicles and one lane I 95.
It may actually be better to take the detour as we know... no one will stay in their lane as they approach the Bridge and there will be a big back log.
Do not believe for a nano-second the speed will be 45 mph.
Regards and thanks again.

Thanks for the warning...just told DH so he can do the checking to make sure we don't get stuck on the way home in October.

does anyone know what the detour is.looking at maps and I don't see any route that is simple to navigate

My DH and I returned yesterday from WDW- Sunday, September 18. We breezed right through. A total non issue - A small portion of mile marker 99
was one lane. This will change from week to week. A poll may keep us all
informed as to whether delays are worth the effort of detours.

We will make this trip again early November - It would be nice if they were ahead of schedule.:rotfl2:

Thanks for any info you may add.

Glad to hear this too as I will be doing some of the driving of our motor home in 2 weeks. I told my DH  that I was ok with straight road driving but if it were under construction, count me out! :rolleyes1:scared:

Does anybody have any news reagrding this? Are they done or if not how is it now? We are heading down in 15 days.

We drove over the bridge 3 days ago and all four lanes were open. It looked like they were finished.

Thanks for the good news.
Heading south on Sunday as long as we don't get a blizzard here in the North East.
