Warning!Driving around the Contemporary with out of town plates?

Yes, there is a contract between Disney and Orange County Sheriffs Dept to provide traffic control on WDW property.
How did you ever find that out?
People who drive at WDW think they can not be stopped for speeding there and that is false.
Absolutely
Driving there for 2 to 10 tens a week for the past 10 to 15 years I have seen some maniac drivers
But when you consider how many cars are at WDW, the number of maniacs is very small. And of those, the vast majority are CMs. I might have a few more driving miles than you and after a while you can pick out the CMs. If it's a visitor and if it wasn't something dangerous, just stupid, I give them a pass. Hey, it's WDW after all.
They other strange thing I have noticed is that people want to compete with the big busses on the property.
That's a loosing strategy. But again it doesn't happen that often. If it did, I wouldn't be doing what I do.
Many roads at WDW are only two lanes and impatient drivers don't need to be passing slower moving busses.
I've never had someone pass me on a two lane road at WDW. Not saying it doesn't happen, just not to me, yet.

I am not saying the officer should stand their and argue with you if they say you was 2 miles over. And you say you wasn't just take the ticket and go to court most likely the officer won't show up. Plus mos police don't pull you over for 2 miles I am just saying you can be they might use it for something else like in sone state they have hands free laws but they can't pull you over for just that but can pull you over for going 2 miles over and then give you the 100 dollar ticket for hands free and give you a warning for the speeding. I sorry fir the gramer and LNG sentence so you don't have to write about my grammar.

Why would you assume the officer will not show up for court? DH is in a riot response unit and when not training or responding to those his unit does DWI enforcement. The officers get notified for court and get a "tour change" if they work nights. If they fail to show up for a court case a notification gets sent to their command and they most certainly answer for it and that can mean anything from warn and admonish to losing vacation days. He has plenty of friends in the highway units and it is the same for the speeding tickets they write. Court dates are not optional. Yes they are missed but it is really only if the officer has a scheduled vacation, is out sick, or has a family emergency-all of which are allowable and not actionable. DH is very active and has A LOT of court so believe me-they show up. There have been many times I have scrambled for a sitter when he gets a sudden court notification or I have had to call in sick to care for our toddler. Sorry if you are not the one who posted about the cop not showing up. It is not very clear from your post but they DO show up. It's not optional.

I saying if he write a 2 mile over tickethe might not show up i know in florida some department require their officer to go to court. I not saying he wouldn show up just because they dint want to make time just mybe if there schudle was tight they let the ticket go and go after biger fish. Most likely if they take the time to write i guess they show up. The one way to make sure they dont show up is not to get a ticket in the first place. If you dont mind where is dh a police officer and thank him for going ou there every day to protect his communty> I wish there was more to reconize police officers they do good work but get bad rap because they do there job and giv tickets.

thank you very much you and magicbus always give the best info. Alot of people dont relize even though your in disney world your still in orange/oscela county florida and still have to follow the law. You still have to be 21 to drink in disney so you should know you have to go the speed limit. Just because some cms speed it not an open invation for guest to speed.

Welcome. It comes with spending alot of time on property. Also knowing people in different departments helps.

Youd think it would be easy to follow the rules. Sign says no left turns. That means no left turns. The sign says stop. Its not optional since it has a white border on it.No flash photograhy mean no flash photography.

There was an incident about 10 years ago between a bus and cms car.The Cm took out the yield sign, where Floridian Way, and 7 seas merge. She never touched the bus or vice versa, but swore up and down it was the busses fault. The DM went and talked to her, and explained to her,(yes it was a her) that she had the yield sign and if she really wanted FHP to come out, there was a good chance she was getting a ticket.Plus pay for the sign, and the damaged grass. It was in her best interest to not go that far. She setteled down, the DM left. About an hour later, he gets called back out again. She wants to file a report. Went threw the whole speech again.
3 guesses as to what happened, and the first 2 dont count.

She got a ticket from FHP for failure to yield among other things.

I've never had someone pass me on a two lane road at WDW. Not saying it doesn't happen, just not to me, yet.

Ive had it happen a few times, usually around the back of the MK, where the new firehouse is.Ocaasionally on Floridian/World Drive next to the MK lots, heading out. 9 out of 10 times its a low flying cm.

i've never seen that before, a good idea.

we have a HD, im the one hanging on the back;)

whenever i see riders out & about w/shorts & sandals:eek: I figure they must never have laid down their bike...imo usually when a driver of car miscalculates & cyclist is trying to save their skin. Most bikers i know have some sort of road rash, surely beats the alternative.

OT - not-so-funny joke from my friends who work the ER: what do you call a biker without a helmet? an organ donor.

we completely agree! It's up to everyone to be as safe as possible, and having been in small, preventable car crashes already at low speeds - why would I even want to think about riding without gear on a bike, when I've already been so shook up while surrounded by two tons of steel and felt an impact?? I almost feel like everyone needs to be as bad of a biker as I was at the beginning, when I had NO clue how to shift, and constantly fell over as I stalled out! I mean, hey, after a few times of falling over while riding at low speeds, I'm really much better at knowing how to avoid doing that and other dangerous mistakes while riding at fast speeds now!!!

I found out about the contract between WDW and OCSD when the Orlando Sentinel printed the story about it. I think that is the only contract as the only piece of WDW property in Osceola county is the All Star Resorts. The only time you might see Osceola out ther is when there Osceola Vehicle-for-Hire department is ticketing commercial vehicles for picking up passengers without an Osceola permit. I have never seen an Osceola Sheriff on WDW property.

Truck1 here what happen to me sound like the sake thing as your story

was on a Disney bus about 2 years ago and coming from contemporary going to poly and a cm pulled out in front if the his by the fort wildness cm exit and engrave to the ttc. The bus driver had to slam on his breaks but still hit her car on the side no real damage just scraps but nothing worse. She said she was in a rush to pick her mother up and thought the bus would stop but their was another bus behind us and thank god the bus cone from the other direction was able to stop or she be in the hospital. I kind of blame Disney because that a very bad exit on that type of road thief needs to be alight thier. I guess it one time we was happy it was an older driver with many years behind the wheel it sad this was his first accident. That way I say their should be bus lanes on some of those roads. Thank god no one was hurt Disney securty responded fast to direct traffic that whole road needs to be fixed. I couldn't believe she pulled out we was setting in the back and saw her inching out saying to are delve their no way she try to go in between to buses but she did you got to relize it take a bus a little longer to stop then a car. no matter how good the bus driver was we could of flipped on the side trying to avoid hitting the car if he didnt know what he was doing. He admired he saw her and didnt think she would pull out so that why he didn't slow down more but still she shouldn't of went.

You get a ticket for that now? :goodvibes

Give Disney time. Theyll come up with a way if they figure they can make a few bucks on it.

Seriously though, I was pointing out that there are rules for a reason. Usually someone has done something stupid which requires the new rules. There are stop signs and speed limits for reason, same as no flash photography, or putting ropes up to keep people out of an area. Theres a lot of people for what ever reason, feel the rules dont apply to them. Those are the ones that give me job security.

Youre talking about where the busses turn right, on to 7 seas, where the Fort/Wilderness Ldge guests come straight across on to 7 seas right? The CM was turning left off of World onto 7 seas, or came across WD,from the Lodge? Thats not a bad intersection, as the one further west on 7 seas.If I had to guess, the worst intesection on property, is under 536/Epcot Center Drive, on BVD. Thats where, you have traffic exiting onto BVD, traffic exiting off of BVD, and no run away lane. Theres no time, for cars coming in to merge, before someone going off property, is trying to get into the same lane. When PI was open, there was always at least 1 if not 2 accidents a night there.

The one I was referring to, was the cm was in a rush, and was tryng to beat the bus to the yield sign. Didnt work. The bus was where it was supposed to be, and to avoid running into a 36000 pound bus, she went for the grass where the sign was. BTW, if youre ever in an accident on property, and there is grass involed, someone will pay for new grass. Usually the at fault driver.

Your good I beat their cm don't don't know everyroad when will people learn you don't want to out run a bus no matter if Disney or not. Yeah she was more worried about losing her job for damaging the bus I mean it was only scrapes even the bus driver fault bad and told her that Disney could just buff them out. We was there for awhile before they got us a new bus but only saw Disney securty so mybe they handled it in house I bet now she take that extra 5 min not to cut off the bus. I never saw Disney managers move so fat we saw them flying down the road from ttc surprised they was able to close the door before the took off. But they was all nice one cMe up to each one of us asking if we was okay and not to worry and the bus driver came around after checking on us and had us fill out paper work he was sweating and looked like he wa going to pass out I guess he was affeId of getting in trouble even though it was not his fault. It happen before all those accident last year including the buses and monorail so we got to see how Disney handled them so knew not to jump on the bad wangon to blame Disney or the driver. They knew what to do securty got lanes closed traffic moving tranportion knew to get a new bus filled out all paper work. They never missed a step so they know how to handle emerngcy all the buses driver passing was checking to see if every one wa okay they showed they cared about their fellow cms. He panic a little but nothing from stopping him from doing what he needed to do to get the job done. Even the driver of the car cane on board to apologies to all of us And another cm from fort wildness where she worked stop and got to help her to see if she was okay and to give her support.

He works in NYC and while he doesn't write speeding tickets, there is not a cop in the entire NYPD who would write a ticket for 2 miles over the limit! Not sure what the deal is down in Florida but I will tell you that if a cop is writing a ticket for 2 miles over the limit, that's definitely for revenue and yes there are quotas, they're called "activity guidelines". Depending on what it is your job is specifically, there are minimums that the cops are expected to bring in, be in tickets, or arrests. There are plenty of people doing stupid things here that no one wastes their time writing tickets for 2 miles over. Every time my husband has to go to court, he is taken away from DWI patrol or from a potentially worse situation. As far as I am concernted I would rather drive with people driving 52 in a 50 than be on the road with people who are impaired driving 90 mph on the wrong side of the road. The unit DH is in responds to emergencies such as riots, hazmat and disasters such as 9-11. Sorry to be so passionate about it, maybe it's the timing, but I'd rather have the cops patrolling, than in court defending nonsense speeding tickets for 2 miles over the limit.

That good I live in westchester ny my mom works in the city and yes if they write that ticket it to make money.

Wouldn't be for revenue, as FL statutes say there is no fine for traveling less than 6 miles over the posted limit (except special situations, like school or construction zones.) Don't know whether points can be assessed; I couldn't find anything specific about that in the statutes.

Like other posters said they stay in one place for an hour then move it seems at every speed check their 4-5 police cars. So that mean they're the same team at each check point so they spend their day going around disney to check people speed. With all the money disney gives them means the tickets they wright are extra money. Rcid just there to handle fire and medical calls so the orange county sheriffs are the only police in that area. It only them and fhp that patrol in their fhp handle car crashes and the sheriffs office handle all other calls. I know no one like to get ticket but i think i rather get a ticket and slow down instead of crashing my car and being killed so they are out there for a reason. Not just to ruin your day and they do understand that your on vacation so that why they will give warnings. The moral of this post is not bad grammar but to stay safe and to watch out for the police.

Everyone please stay safe slow down buckle up and dont drink and drive have fun but in a safe way.

:rotfl:

They are not writing tichets for 2 miles over the speed limit. However WDW is not a speed track. If you follow the speed limit signs you will not get a ticket.

I have one slight question isn't the road by the contemporary also the road you can theoretically drive down to the train barn. I am wondering if the sherrifs are also checking if these guests are not lost or thinking about exploring places where Disney would rather they not.

Yes..it is.
But, that is not their purpose.
Mostly locals and employees use that road,
once past the Contemporary.
It is a shortcut to my house.
It is also right past the only way that you can access the Contemporary by car...
You can only get in..in one direction.
