WARNING: Disney Vacation Account took money without permission

That's in the FAQ.
Yes, your right. I actually questioned that on these boards before I did it but everyone was saying that you just had to have the account for 120 days before they would send the bonus, not that you had to leave the money in there for 120 days. Oh well.

Wait! What!
My vacation is in October (less than 120 days away). So the money that I deposit now won't count towards the 2%? This might explain why I never received a bonus.

Edit: My 2 accounts are over a year old.

That's not what the FAQ say - your account has to be open for 120 days at the time of spending the $1000 to get the $20 bonus. Early on, some folks were able to get it on spending before 120-days. The $1000 does not need to sit in the account for 120 days.

Also, you do not get 2% in GCs for any amount, just $20/$1000 spent on an eligible Disney vacation element. You also get no bonus just for depositing money no matter how long you keep it in there.

I am also going in October and will be eligible to start earning the bonus this weekend as I begin paying off my package. That is, if the website gets fixed.

I apologize, I misread your post. You're correct in that the account needs to be open for 120 days... it isn't that the money must sit there for 120 days. What a mess.

Disney Vacation Account took money without permission

That title is just a little misleading don't you think. You make it sound like someone decided to just take money out of your account, just cause they wanted too. I think that it has been pretty much determined that it was a computer error and that they were fixing the problem.

I had that recently with just my Chase credit card, but, they corrected it before I even requested it. This stuff happens. There really is no need to make Disney sound like a bunch of second rate criminals. This is what we must live with if we wish to be in the technological age. That is why you constantly hear people saying to keep a close eye on your accounts. Why? Because garbage happens and we need to stay ahead of it. However, it would be wrong to think that nothing will ever go wrong, because it certainly will.

I suspended future contributions last week. Have an email conformation that it was suspended and yesterday they hit the card that was confirmed the payment was suspended for.

I don't think it's misleading. If you authorize Disney to hit your card once and month and they hit it twice, then the second hit did not have your permission.

That stinks too.

Technically, yes, but, if it had been intentional and they didn't "have your permission" then that would be a much different thing then what actually seems to have happened. It's hard to ask permission for something that they never intended to have happen. 'Took a second charge due to a computer glitch' would be much more accurate and way less sinisterly incriminating.

I have had two DVA's since the program started and haven't had one problem with it, nor have I heard any complaints about it here. It is probably one of the most stable IT infrastructures at Disney (probably because it is managed by a bank under federal guidelines).
There have been alot of complaints about issues on the Budget Board.

I have been in the mortgage industry for many years and I can tell you it is a huge NO NO to take someones money out of their bank account without authorization whether intentional or not. People that give institutions their financial information have entrusted it to them and the institution has a fudiciary duty to only use that information in the way it was intended.

The title is accurate. As stated, they didn't have permission to charge my CC yesterday. I have no idea whether it was a computer error or not because nobody has bothered to notify me (or anyone else) of the problem or of any proposed resolution. This really is second rate behavior.

Me as well. Withdrawal was "pending" yesterday in my bank account and the withdrawal wasn't supposed to occur until 6/19, so I did NOT have the funds and it over drew me!!! So of course I tried to see if I had set up my contributions wrong but could not get in to the DVA website.."down for maintainence" so even though I am glad I see it wasn't just me, I feel bad for everyone that is getting messed up!! Hopefully down for maint. means they are fixing the issue!! I have seen it pending in my checking account before on the date I have it set up but it drops off for a day or two then posts like 3 days after I had it scheduled. So this morning it isn't on there any more but I suppose it could still come off in a few days. And this morning...website ( DVA) still down for maint!! UGH>

can someone explain what a DVA is? ive never heard of this
Disney Vacation Account.

It's a no-interest savings account that you can use to save for your Disney vacation. You can fund it with credit, debit or Disney GCs. A lot of people use it to consolidate the Disney GCs that they've acquired at a discount.

Looks like they fixed the issue on my end. My bank account shows the pending withdrawl was retracted. That was painless but I hope I doesn't happen again. I was already skeptical about doing it in the first place!
