You want to trade!!! 50 mile an hour winds snow up to my a** I will take your weather any day, When your day starts off in the 20-30s you gain about 30-40 degrees and tops off in the 50s and 60s up here we are lucky if we gain 10-15 degrees in the course of one day and this time of year your lucky if it gets out of the 30s, But it's all what your used to, Bad day in FL. beets a good day in MA. and if you want a tax-aholic govener come to MA. they don't call it taxachussetts for nothing. And no I did not vote for him,
I once felt the pain you're experiencing now,,,,but I left Buffalo & moved to Florida!
The biggest thing about the cold weather we're experiencing here is that due to the longevity and severity of this spell, all our winter crops are dying. The major farms are pumping so much water out of the ground to protect their crops, that sink-holes are popping up all over the state. This method of protecting crops works well in a normal winter when we have maybe 2 or 3 nights of temps dipping below 30 degrees for more than 6 hours - but this year we have had weeks of this type of weather. It equates to peeing against the wind, and the crops are lost despite attempts to protect them. This is a major loss of $$$ for our agricultural economy and will result in higher prices in the grocery stores across the US. It means we will be seeing more imports of fruits & veggies from places like Guatemala & Chile. It also means that our Gov't will be paying out more of our tax $$$ to cover the farmer's losses, not to mention all the $$$ being spent on filling huge, vast sink-holes that have swallowed up highways, schools and homes. I-4 east near Lazy-Days and one exit ramp just east of Lazy-Days were closed for over a week to repair sink-hole damage. I can't wait to hear how much that cost the American tax-payers. (US Interstate = US Taxpayer's $$$)
Also, because all the grass & hay have been decimated by the freezes, cattle ranchers have to pay to have feed delivered into Florida to feed the beef cattle so us American's can have our steak. Have you seen how beef prices have sky-rocketed lately? Florida ranks #12 in the nation in beef production. Fish farmers for the most part lost their entire stock & over 50% of the sugar cane crop was damaged. An estimated 35-40% of the citrus crop was ruined and can't even be used for juicing. Tomato, strawberry, and celery growers have, for the most part, plowed their fields under and given up for this season. So - we're not just whining because we're cold, we're crying because of how this has impacted our economy in the state - and ultimately how this will impact the economy of the US as a whole.
Harsh, severe weather causes problems no matter where you live. Just wait until we see our gas prices skyrocket this summer due to all the fuel oil used to heat northern homes this winter. Crappy weather impacts us all.
