Wanted to add on at my home resort but OMG!

We bought into DVC back in 2010 at $95/point for our home resort Grand Californian. I have been thinking about adding a small 100 point contract to our current one, but I went to check the prices and they are through the roof... $135/point for a 100 point contract? I though these contracts were supposed to get cheaper as the remaining years on the lease gets shorter? How come other resorts at WDW I can pick up for $60-$70/point? What's going on here?

It's pretty much just supply & demand. VGC is relatively small, the only DVC resort at DL and very popular.

2010 was also a very difficult time for DVC. They opened Kidani, BLT, THV, and VGC all within 12 months. On top of adding over 10 million points to sell, they were receiving a ton of foreclosures from the previous few years. Today, DVC is in far better shape.

And they say don't buy timeshare as an investment.... I should slap my accountant!

Appears that the economics of VGC - location and size - make that particular property a good investment.

Timeshares and most DVC are really not a good investment.....this may be the only one.

IMO DL and DW DVC programs are 'resale-able' products vs the average TS. We've other family members who own TS and none of them have the type of resale demand of DVC.

Conversely, I am glad we chanced to purchase when we did because the prices now are just and now the Poly is tantalizingly anticipated but the point price, considering the resale market alone, seems like it will be high. We've yet to be able to find availability in GF (never tried for the GC) so the anticipated Poly availability for trade-in =

In the midst of closing on a 160 point VGC contract. Can't wait for it to be done and to book our next visit. Got lucky and secured a 1 BR in April 2013 and had the vacation of our lives. Ready to do it again!!!
