My ADR's have been done for a while now and I just realized that we are only eating at one resort - the Contemporary. We have the Concourse Steakhouse and Chef Mickey's. My parents are coming with us and they haven't been to Disney World since I was in 3rd grade (I'm 32 now) and I want them to see more than just POP and the Contemporary. Which one should I drop and what is a good resort TS meal (1 ts credit) to replace it with? :sunny:

The Boardwalk is a great area! You could go to Spoodles. Other wonderful choices would be Boma at AKL or Cape May Cafe at BC.

I would drop Concourse Steakhouse.

I don't know which one to drop, they are both good. Concourse probably has "better" food but chef Mickey's has...well Mickey :) .
Animal Kingdom Lodge is REALLY beautiful, if you haven't visited it yet you should try, Boma or Jiko (I think Jiko is two TS).
Also, Ohana in the Poly.
Boardwalk is awesome too, Spoodles is yummy.
Yaht Club has the Yahtsmen Steakhouse (I have heard its good, haven't been there) that might be a good one to sub. the concourse with.
Hope that helps! :wave2:

Go for one of the restaurants at AK, and try to schedule it so that you will finish eating just before dusk...or start just after dusk. Then walk around to the various viewing areas and see the animals before or after you eat. The best animal viewing is at dusk. The resort itself is an experinece.

Whispering Canyon in the Wilderness Lodge. The meal itself can be a lot of fun! And you get to check out the WL, a gorgeous hotel. You can walk out back and watch the geyser go off, too. It runs on schedule.

:)

WL - Whispering Canyon is a fun but noisy dining location.
Artist Point has a wonderful view, is quiet and the food is good.

YC - Yachtsmans Steakhouse Great food and the best service

Easy monorail ride to Kona Cafe at the Poly from EPCOT, or the MK. Great Food and great atmosphere. The Flying Fish at the Boardwalk walk was one of our best meals at WDW in the past 10 years. It requires 2 TS though and you'll probably have to pay for part of the meal out of your pocket. I'm not sure how that works if you only have 1 TS.

I second the ideas about AKL and/or the Boardwalk area. Beautiful resorts, and completely different than Pop and CR.

Now I'm more confused than ever. If we cancel Concourse, I want to have something that my father (the old man) will enjoy. Imagine you have Archie Bunker with you. Where would you take Archie to impress him? Archie doesn't like lines or noisy kids. I think Archie has had enough of that at the parks and Chef Mickeys. Chef Mickeys is on our first night. I'm hoping that it doesn't overstimulate Archie to the point that he refuses to go to dinner with us for the rest of the week. Help! I know I'm not the only person with a grouchy old man!!

Resort restaurants that are my favorites are:

California Grill at Contemporary
Jinko at Animal Kingdom
Victoria and Albert at Grand Floridian
Ohana at Polynesian

If you choose Boma I would cancel Chef Mickey since both are buffets, and its nice to be served every now and then.

A word of caution though...If by grumpy you mean set in his ways, likes what he likes and not unusual things...I would steer clear of Boma. We are adventurous eaters, and even though we thought it was good, we didn't feel it lived up to the hype.

I personally would choose O'hana at the Poly. We have had great service in a fun setting with yummy food. :thumbsup2

DH is not a big fan of the magic either and he likes Boma, Jiko, Artist Point and most of the places in the World Showcase. We don't have little ones any more so I try to schedule very late meals.

Oh, and don't feel too alone. Back in the '70s my family went to the Magic Kingdom. My dad drove the 800 miles, paid for everything, bought a ticket, took one look at Fantasyland and parked his behind in the Colulmbia Harbor House for the rest of the vacation. Didn't see one show or ride a single ride. WDW is not for everyone.

If you are trying to impress an older person, you should definately go to California Grill. The view, food and fireworks is great. Great wine selection too. My mom is hard to impress and even she enjoyed it. Everyone I've ever taken really enjoyed it. Make reservations early or go to the lounge and wait it out.

My "Grouchy Dad" wants to go to Cape May. I personally like Boma because of the animals. We're going to both ;).

What type of food does he like? If he is a meat and potatoes guy and you take to a place that specializes in seafood or if he likes things simple and you take him to a restaurant that serves fancy food, he may get even grumpier. That doesn't mean you can't stretch his horizons a bit, but start with a place that serves food he likes. List his likes and/or dislikes and you'll get more helpful advise.

He likes steak. That's why I had picked the Concourse Steakhouse but DH has his heart set of taking the kids to Chef Mickey's. So who wins Dad or Hubby? I have to live with hubby - but he's easygoing and wouldn't raise too much of a fuss.

If he likes steak, what about Le Cellier? YSH has great steaks, but it's a 2-credit place.

I love Le Cellier but we're already eating 3 TS dinners at Epcot. I wanted to explore a new resort.
