I want to send something to Lane's family. Does anyone know if Disney is collecting anything on behalf of the family? Kingdom strollers set up a GoFundMe site. However I don't know if that is a legit fundraising.

I would wait before donating to any GoFunMe. While KS is a reputable company, I would just wait to see what Disney, authorities, and the family have to say. I'm sure the family will be setting up a memorial fund or something within the next few days. Keep sending your prayers though and kudos to you for being so thoughtful and wanting to do something to help. It's people like you that remind us that light does indeed shine brightest in the darkness.

I would strongly advise to waiting for something from Disney or doing research to find out if the KS is in working connection with the family. Gofundme is a great source to raise money through, but you want to make sure the family is involved..otherwise yes they could be getting the money and not sending it to the family. And word of the wise gofundme will not give 100% to the family EACH donation has 5% taken out of it to go to the company. I know this because I have participated in a gofundme account.

Their local bank in Nebraska might have a donation account set up. At least that's what happened when my boyfriend's uncle died last Christmas in a car wreck. I would wait a few days and then see if their local banks have any accounts set up to donate to.

GoFundMe is very legit.

Not being rude, but I am trying to figure out why there are donations being sent. I'm only curious. If they are seriously in need of help I will donate.

I would imagine that they will have quite a period of time where they are in need of a lot of support, unable to return to work, funeral costs, etc.

Good point about lost wages. I wasn't considering that aspect. The whole week has my brain and heart hurting and not thinking about all the details.

Disney probably is not collecting anything from the public, but I can see Disney assisting the family with the finances involved in the situation. Due to the high profile of this incident, there will likely be many donations and funds given to the family. There are several collections going around on facebook right now, so I would wait until there is a reputable company or a site like CNN reports that a reputable gofundme is set up before donating. As horrific as this tragedy is, there are sadly many people out there eager to take advantage of it.

I'm also thinking that they may end up having to stay in Florida longer than expected (I know I've heard talk of autopsy) and I imagine those cost will accumulate (although I also imagine Disney may be covering that). But the cost with bringing him home, not having to rush back to work, likely therapy and things of that nature.

To Yaya, I should add---this church has been there for many years---I've driven past it many times--too numerous to count (and I'm over 50 years old).

Advice from a recent experience. Wait untill you hear from the family via the official obit how THEY want to do it.

A friend recently passed and a group of old college friends started a GoFund Me and offended the family. In fact they called it fraud as they at first were clueless. In these cases. Give the family privacy ( they stated that in sherrifs statement). This includes sending stuff.

Most Obits will state in lieu of .........and as in my friends case. Their bank set up a fund. Comissionless. Gofundme takes a %.

Sorry just saw their church is doing something. Ok to assume the family had a say here.

Financially though I would hope Disney has them covered for any immediate costs.

HOw about the other 100's of kids that have been either killed neglected or abused or the TROOPS or police that have died or have been killed trying to protect us...are you guys supporting them too??????

Nope. It's not a PC fad to support those people.

To Yaya, I live in the region (and have so for many years) and was watching the news last night---the family's local church is accepting donations.

You can go to this local news channel, read the article, and it will tell you the name of the church accepting donations.

Another good source for info would be KFAB.com..

I don't get this either. I know people have good intentions and mean well. There is nothing or any amount of money that is going to make this family feel better about this tragic incident. There is only certain things this family needs and that is close loved ones and space away from the general public and media. The reality of this situation is not going to really hit them until they return home and the media circus stops and you are alone. Everyone wants to help and be there, but after a week or two and people return to their lives you are left alone to finally process how you move forward and how your life has completely changed forever. That is when the difficult part really begins. How do I know? Because I have buried two children.
