Want to semi-permanently affix pins to my daughter's jacket - how?

My daughter's name is Aurora, and I've been collecting Aurora/Sleeping Beauty pins for her since before she was born. It's not that many; we only have 11 right now, but we're going to WDW in less than 2 weeks and I bought her this cute little pink Levi's jacket to wear on the trip. I found an Aurora iron-on patch at WalMart, and put it on the jacket, in the middle of the back. Then I surrounded the patch with all of the pins. Some of them were kind of pricey, coming from Japan. Obviously I don't want any of them to fall off and get lost. They all have the rubber pin backs, but I still don't trust them.

What can I use to tighten the grip of the pin backs, besides something permanent like krazy glue? I don't want it to be permanent because she will eventually outgrow the jacket and I'll want to remove the pins. Any ideas on some semi-permanent adhesive substance?

Thanks!

You can get locking backs for the pins. They work real good and can still be removed. Try Dizneypins.com and check in their logo store on line... I would also think you can get them at a local craft store but I am not sure... Here is what they look like...

I would have to second Nat's suggestion. The original locking pin backs are called PinSavers and they connect to the back of your pins using a small Allen wrench which is included. You can get something similar at hobby stores. This type was not designed for pins but rather to hold wheels on axles for remote control planes. I have had mixed luck with those as the tolerances are not as precise due to the differences in axle diameters. I use PinSavers all the time to attach pins to my hat that I don't want to lose. I was so impressed with how they worked that I became a distributor for them. During the Winter Olympics I went through a ton of these. The only caution I would give you is to not over-tighten the PinSaver. These things have such a bite that I have seen some people literally break the pin back in half.

If you need some, or have any questions about how they work, let me know.

Jeff

Oh, I think it is a great idea to weight down little kids when they go to WDW. With the strong winds that blow through Florida some times, it is always advisable to add 10-20 pounds of extra weight to their little bodies to keep their feet on the ground. An added benefit to that is if the wind is not blowing, they can't move as fast giving you a fighting chance to keep up with them as the day drags on.

NHMickey - thanks, I've ordered some!

Jeff - LOL. There's only 11 pins on her jacket, so I hope she doesn't blow away! :D

One thing you might also want to do when you put the pin savers on.
Take the Mickey head rubber pin backs and break off the ears. Use the little circles on the pin before putting on the pin saver. You can use little pieces of rubber but the ears work better.
The pin savers are shorter than the pin backs and they sometimes stick through. Your daughter might not like all those little spikes sticking in her back. Peggie

So Peggie,

Is that what they are talking about when they say "That little girl had her ears pierced"? Silly me, I was always looking on the sides of the kid's head not the back of their jacket. Someone really needs to explain these things to me so I am not so confused.

Bytheway, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt in thinking you were suggesting that mom tear the ears off the pin back and not off the little girl. If she were talking about a little boy, well then it would be a little less clear.

And for the record, PinSavers are not shorter than pin backs, they are "pin post coverage challenged". I don't want anyone to think we are not concerned with the feelings of others.

Hey BluOrchid2,

I would definitely listen to Peggie. If your daughter gets stuck by 11 pins she will be A-Roarin rather than Aurora when you put that jacket on her.

Jeff, This computer is just not working right tonight. It skips entire sentences every once in a while.
I meant to write....
Take the Mickey head rubber backed pins to the parks and leave the kids home with grandma. If you bring the kids along they might get cranky and you may want to box them in the head and break off the ears.
thank you for bringing my mistake to my attention. Peggie
